    HOWARD E. STRAUB
    The funeral of Howard E. Straub, 59, of Colonial Park, Harrisburg, was held from St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Harrisburg, on Friday, November 24. Services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Leonard E. Shertzer. Interment took place in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg.
    Mr. Straub was ill since July 10 when he suffered a severe heart attack. He passed away at the Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg, on Monday, November 20th.
    He is survived by his widow, Nora Nye Straub, a native of Pine Grove, one daughter, Mrs. Robert Lontz, Harrisburg and three grandchildren, Debra, David and Jeffrey Lontz, all of Harrisburg. He is also survived by two brothers and five sisters.
    Attending the funeral from this area were: Paul H. Nve. Mrs. Mildred Umbenhauer, Mrs. Emma N. Potts and her children; Kay, Carol and David Potts, Mrs. Sandra Manbeck and Mrs. Donna Thomas.     Services for Minerva C. Miller, 71, of 1003 W. Maple St, Valley View, who died Tuesday morning in Polyclinic Medical Center, Harrisburg, will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. A memorial servicewill be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View. The Rev. H. Kapp Ogburn III will officiate.     Mrs. Miller was born in Valley View, July 10, 1915, a daughter of the late Edgar and Estella Strohecker Straub.

    She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the choir, church council and Lutheran Church Women.
    Mrs. Miller was a volunteer at Hamburg Center and Wernersville State Hospital.
    She was a member and secretary of Valley View Fire Company Auxiliary.
    Mrs. Miller previously served on the board of directors for Tri-Valley Charities.
    She was the local registrar for 10 years, after retiring from Gordon Peters' factory, Elizabethville.
    She was a member of Tri-Valley Senior Citizens, Valley View Park Association and Tri-Valley CB Association.
    Her husband, Lester Sr., died in 1979.
    Surviving are three sons, Lester Jr., York, James, Lititz, and Lawrence, Elizabethville; a daughter, Ann Meckley, Herndon area; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Minnie Wagner, Valley View, and Dora Huntzinger, Harrisburg; two brothers, Russell Straub, Hegins, and Robert Straub, Dalmatia area.

    Robert B. "Sport" Straub, 92, of Dalmatia, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2020, at the Mountain View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township. He was born in Valley View on March 12, 1928, a son of the late Estella and Edgar Straub.
    He was employed by dairy in Washington DC for 33 years. Robert loved sports, especially baseball and the Redskins. He was a season ticket holder for 47 years, even after retiring to PA. He was a 1945 graduate of Hegins Township High School. While in High School, he won the 1945 Championship playing 3rd base. He worked for Kimmel’s Dairy, Valley View while he was going to school then entered the Navy from 1947-49 and then returned to dairy work for 33 years in Maryland. His connection with his customers was unbelievable. He received letters of excellent service from the Marriott Corporation and his own employer.
    While in Maryland, he coached Little League, Jr. and Sr. Baseball and followed his son through College Baseball, after which he started Umpiring for Montgomery County Maryland. He retired to PA in 1985 and again became involved with coaching Teener League and LMHS Baseball. Robert was involved with Dalmatia, Leck Kill and Trevorton Elementary Schools with the Dalmatia Kiwanis sponsored Stamp Clubs, K-kids, Builders Club and LMHS Key Club. He was a member of Zion Stone Valley Church, a council member and Cemetery Assoc. Secretary. Robert was a member of the Dalmatia Kiwanis Club, joining on April 26, 1986, Kiwanian of the year 1992 and 2014 and President from 1992-93 and 1996-97. He volunteered for Relay for Life and Red Cross Bloodmobile.
    Robert is survived by his wife of 72 years, Nancy L. (Ressler) Straub; nephews Lester Miller and wife Lorraine of York, Lawrence and wife Sandi Miller of Manheim and niece Anne Meckley and husband Fred of Dalmatia, Sandy Miller of Manheim and several more nieces and nephews; daughter in-law Jane Straub and granddaughters Amy and Katie and four great grandsons of Brookeville, MD. He was preceded in death by a son Brady Straub in 1986, nephew James Miller; two brothers Howard and Russell; five sisters Mae, Minnie, Minerva, Mary and Dora
    A private service will be held at Zion Stone Valley Church, Dalmatia. Interment will take place in the Stone Valley Cemetery, Dalmatia.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Zion Stone Valley Church.2

  • Charles Alvin Straub was baptized on 5 September 1914, St. David's Lutheran and Reformed Church, Hebe, Northumberland County, PA.1
  • He died on 27 April 1943, at age 28, in action in North Africa. He was a private in the 168th Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division (Service Number: 33234146). One newspaper reported:
    HEBE SOLDIER DIES IN NORTH AFRICAN ACTION
    Private Charles A. Straub, 29, Killed In Action April 29 During Tunisian Campaign, War Department Announces.
    Private Charles A. Straub, 29, of near Hebe, was listed today by the War Department as having died in action in North Africa. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geirman A. Straub, of Herndon, R. D. 1, had received word May 18 that he was missing in action. A week later. May 25, they received another telegram that he had died in action April 29. His death was confirmed today by a casualty list released in Washington.
    The last letter the Straub family had from the son was April 27, two days before he was killed. Previous to that they had received several letters from him after his arrival in Africa about the first of the year.
    Private Straub was drafted a year ago by the Sunbury board and had trained at Fort Meade, Md., and Fort Bragg, N. C, before being sent to Africa. He was in the Field Artillery in this country, but was transferred to the Infantry upon his arrival overseas.
    Previous to going into the service he had worked as a carpenter at the Pennsylvania Ordnance Works at Allenwood. Private Straub was born and raised on the Straub farm about a mile from Hebe. He attended the Hebe school, and was a member of the Lutheran Church at Hebe. His parents and the following brothers and sisters, Mrs. Elwin Rom-berger, of Lykens; Stanley Straub, of Millersburg; Mrs. Clyde Snyder, Nelson, Marion, Lee and Iva Straub at home, survive.

    He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pauline Meyers Straub; one daughter, Carolyn Wagner, Donaldson; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dean Straub, Tremont, and Delbert Straub, Lancaster; a sister, Esther Culbert, Sewell, N.J.
    Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 17, from H. L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with Pastor Maureen C. Duffy-Guy and the Rev. Robert Kehrli officiating. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove.

    Lawrence N. "Larry" Straub, 73, of 408 N. Queens St., Lancaster, formerly of the Tremont area, died Saturday at his home.
    Born in Tremont, June 17, 1923, he was a son of the late Ray A. and Florence Hock Straub.
    He was an Army veteran of World War n, serving in the chemical warfare department of the 3rd Army in Europe.
    He had been a salesman at Watt and Schad Department Store and Hager's Department Store, Lancaster, before retiring in 1975.
    He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Tremont, an associate member of Grace Lutheran Church, Lancaster, a member of Multiple Sclerosis Society, Lancaster, and its Patients Club and Brennan Keip American Legion Post 384, Tremont.
    He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester, and two sisters, Helen Klinger and Alene Fegley.
    Surviving are a sister, Esther Culbert, Sewell, N.J; four brothers, Mark, Donaldson, David, Houston, Tex., Delbert, Lancaster, and Dean, Tremont.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont. The Rev. Paul Schaediger will officiate. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Tremont.
