  • Moses W. Strohecker was born on 12 July 1852.1,2,3
  • He was the son of William Strohecker and Sarah Wiest.1
  • Moses W. Strohecker was baptized on 5 September 1852, St. David's Lutheran and Reformed Church, Hebe, Northumberland County, PA.3,4
  • He married Adeline Klinger, daughter of Samuel Klinger and Balinda Savidge.
  • Moses's first wife Adeline was apparently a mental patieint in the Pennsylvania State Hospital beginning sometime before 1900 until her death in 1919. Records for several of Moses's children indicate that their mother was Elizabeth West [or Wiest], who was listed as a servant in the 1900 Census and as Moses's wife in the 1910 Census. This suggests that Moses and Elizabeth or Lizzie West lived as husband and wife, but it is unkown whether they actually married or whether Moses and Adeline ever divorced.5,6
  • Elizabeth A. West and Moses W. Strohecker had a relationship, but no marriage records were found for them. It seems relatively clear that Elizabeth was the mother of at least 2 of Moses's children. They apparently lived as husband and wife.7,8
  • At the time of the 1900 Census, Moses's household included his youngest 4 children, Lizzie A. West, a servant, and Sadie E. Wiest, 1 year old, listed as a "daughter," perhaps of Lizzie West. Moses's wife Adaline is not included in his household. At that time, she was a patient at the "Pennsylvania State Lunatic Hospital" near Harrisburg, where apparently she remained a patient until her death in 1919. Adaline was listed as married and the mother of 4 children.9,10
  • At the time of the 1910 Census, about 6 months before his death, Moses was head of a household that included a wife (Lizzie), daughter (Verna), a step-son Morris Wiest, and two adopted children, Rosie Strohecker (born 1907) and Moses E. Strohecker (born 1909), both grandchildren of Moses. Lizzie was listed as born in Pennsylvania but both her parents were born in England.11
  • He died on 29 September 1910, Fountain Springs, Schuylkill County, PA, at age 58.1,2,12
