    Mrs. Sarah Goodman, Widely Known Rural Resident, Passed Away Late Friday Afternoon at Home of Daughter
    Mrs. Sarah Goodman, well known and respected resident of Hebe, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Straub at that place a at 4 o'clock Friday afternoon from the effects of a complication of diseases incident to old age. Death occurred aftr an illness of several weeks duration.
    The deceased was 78 years old and had been a life long residnt of the district in and around Hebe.
    She leaves the fillowing children to mourn her passing: Durrell of Mandata, John of Trevorton, Mrs. William Starr of Urban, Mrs. Henry Adams of Hebe, Mrs. John Straub of Hebe, and Mrs. Mary Webber of Port Carbon. She also leaves one brother, John Bierly of Urban.
    Mrs. Goodman was a devout Christian woman and a faithful member of the Lutheran Church at Hebe, where funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Noll of Otto Station officiating. Burial will be made in the church cemetery.

  • Theodore Shelly Bowen died on 8 February 1929, North Whitehall, Lehigh County, PA, at age 35, in an autombile accident that also killed his passenger, his sister-in-law Myrtle Holwig Knell. A newspaper article reported:
    FORMER LYKENS LADY KILLED IN AUTO MISHAP
    Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. George Knell, 33, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Holwig, 222 North Second street, this place, with the Rev. H. Fake, pastor-of the United Brethren church, officiating. Burial was in the Wiconisco cemetery.
    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Knell is survived by her husband, George Knell, of Schuylkill Haven, and a daughter, Margaret Knell.
    Mrs. Knell met death in an auto accident while accompanying her brother-in-law, Theodore Bowen, 35, who was also killed, while returning to the latter's home in Allentown from Schwenksville, accompanied by Robert Smith of Allentown, who was badly injured and is in the Allentown hospital.
    Bowen was instantly killed and Mrs. Knell died on the way to the hospital. The acicdent occurred when their car struck an icy stretch of road and skidded into a tree. Bowen was driving the machine. Bowen was married to Miss Margaret Holwig, a sister of Mrs. Knell. His wife died three years ago. He is survived by two daughters, Margaret and Myrtle Bowen.
    Funeral services were held for Bowen in Pottsville, Monday.

    Lawrence E. Hummel, 62, of 1922 S. Exposition St., Wichita, Kans., a native of Tower City, died Thursday at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, after a lengthy illness.
    Mr. Hummel was born Oct. 5, 1913 and was a son of the late William and Seville Leher Hummel. He was also a resident of Schuylkill Haven and the Harrisburg area before going to Kansas a year and a half ago because of his health.
    Surviving are his widow, the former Myrtle Bohn, formerly of Lykens; three sons, Larry and Robert, both of California; Lamar, Linglestown; a daughter, Mrs. Linda Duclos, Wichita; nine grandchildren; one brother, Ray of Tower City; two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Reightler, Tower City, and Mrs. Anna Bohn, Carlisle.
    Services and burial were held Saturday in Wichita.
