    ELIZABETHVILLE -- Alma L. Geist, 83, of 18 W. Broad St., Elizabethville for five years, formerly of Rebuck, died Thursday afternoon, April 10, 1997, at Harrisburg Hospital, where she was a patient for two weeks.
    She was born May 3, 1913, in RR1 Lykens, a daughter of the late Brady and Catherine (Klinger) Straub. She was married to Lester L. Geist, who died April 5, 1987.
    She was educated in Lykens Township schools.
    She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading.
    Mrs. Geist was a member of Christ United Church of Christ Church, Leck Kill, where she was a former member of the Women's Guild.
    Surviving are one son, Maynard L. of Leck Kill; three daughters, Helen K. Adams of Rebuck, E. Darlene Masser of Leck Kill and G. Bonita Seaman of New Cumberland; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
    The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ United Church of Christ Church, Leck Kill, by the Rev. Mark I. Rothermel, her pastor. Burial will be in St. John's Reformed Cemetery, Leck Kill.
    There will be no viewing, but visitors may call from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service.
    Contributions may be made to Christ United Church of Christ Church Memorial Fund, Leck Kill, Pa. 17836.
    Funeral arrangements were by the Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RR1 Klingerstown.

    She was a member of Salem United Church, of Christ Church, RD1 Klingerstown.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon H., on Nov. 16, 1990; six brothers; and four sisters.
    Surviving are two daughters, Eleanor Deitrich, RD1 Pitman, and Virginia Keim, Cleona; a son, James L., Dalmatia; two sisters, Luma Dunkle, RD1 Hegins, and Alma Geist, Elizabethville; a brother, Harry Straub, RD1 Lykens.

    Ralph E. Straub, age 39 years, died at his home in Lykens Township, June 28th, following an illness of several months. He was a member of Klinger's Lutheran Church, at Erdman.
    Mr. Straub was a son of Brady and Catharine (Klinger) Straub, and was a native of Lykens Township.
    Survivors are his father, his widow, Mrs. Hilda Boyer Straub, and the following children: Russel C., Jean C., Clair C., Glenn R., William Lemar, and Barbara M. Straub. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Edgar Straub. Mrs. Ira Schlegel, and Mrs. William Schlegel, all of Valley View; Mrs. Llyod Hartman, Baltimore, Md; Arthur Straub, Spring Glen; Homer Straub and Harry Straub, Lykens R. D; Mrs. Ralph Williams, Donaldson; Raymond Straub, Tremont; Roy Straub, and Mrs. Leon Miller, of Klingerstown; and Mrs. Lester Geitz, of Leck Kill.
    Funeral services were held from the residence Thursday afternoon with further services in Klinger's Lutheran and Reformed Church at Erdman and interment was made in the cemetery adjoing the church. Rev. Dr. D. I. Sultzbach, pastor of the Sacramento Lutheran Parish, officiated.

    He was born in Barry Township, 1851, a son of the late Benaval and Abbie, nee Kramer Klinger, and lived his entire life in that section. He was a member of the Barry United Brethren Church and a member of the I. O. O. F. of Valley View.
    To survive he leaves the following children: Mrs. Wm. Spatz, Mrs. John Shuey, Irvin, Clarence, all of Ashland, R. D., Gurney, of Tower City; 34 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren also survive.
    The funeral was held Thursday with services in charge of Rev. S. L. Rhoads, assisted by Rev. C. R. Schwartz of Annville. Interment was made in the Barry U. B. cemetery.

  • Clarence Mark Klinger married Maude Irene Kessler, daughter of Charles H. Kessler and Hanna Sibila Klinger, on 1 March 1906, Hegins, Schuylkill County, PA.1
  • At the time of the 1920 Census, Clarence and Maude were living in Barry Township, Northumberland County, where he was a farmer. Their household included 7 children.4

    C. M. Klinger Dies; Leader In 4-H Work
    Clarence Mark Klinger, 70, of Ashland R. D. 1, Barry Town ship, former farmer, leader an 4-H Senior Extension activities, and drummer in the Weishample Band, died early on Friday morning in his home after a lengthy illness.
    Mr. Klinger had previously been a patient in Good Samaritan Hospital for nine weeks.
    A native of Valley View, he was born on Mar. 29, 1889, a son of the late Alfred and Hannah Mattern Klinger. His wife, the former Maude Kessler Klinger, died in 1944.
    Mr. Klinger was a member of Barry Evangelical United Church of Weishample, the Weishample Grange 1898, Weishample P. O. S. of A; and master of Schuylkill County Pomona Grange No 55.
    Formerly a Barry Township farmer, he had also been employed as a foreman for the Pennsylvania Department of Highways for 11 years, and lastly worked as a janitor at the Tri-Valley High School at Hegins.
    Surviving are these children: Mrs. Herbert Ludwig, Mrs. Clarence Maurer, Mrs. George Ebert and Mrs. Lawrence Shuey, all of Hegins R. D. 2; Mrs. Harry Kissinger of Tower City, Allen, Gurney a[N]d Clair, all of Ashland R. D.1; Calvin of Hummelstown R. D, and Stanley of Gordon; 38 grandchildren; 18 great-grand children; a sister Mrs. Verna Shuey of Ashland R. D., and two brcthers, Irvin of Ashland and Gurney of Tower City.
    Funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon from Barry Evangelical United Brethren Church. Interment will be made in United Brethren Cemetery at Weishample. The Rev. Richard Blank will officiate at services. Buffington Funeral Home of Valley View is in charge of arrangements.

    Former Tremont Bakery OwnerDies In Ambulance
    Gurney A. Klinger, 73, 1102 E. Grand Avenue, Toower City, former Tremont resident and businessman died suddenly on Sunday afternoon. He was striken ill while visiting, his son Kenneth in Tower City and died while being taken to Pottsville to a hosipital in an ambulance.
    En route to the hospital his conditlon became worse and the ambulance stopped in Tremont where Mr. Klinger was examined by Dr. J. P. Robinson. Upon finding the man had expired, the ambulance returned to Tower City.
    While living in Tremont he worked at the H. G. Schach bakery he later purchased and operated for a few years. In 1925 he sold the bakery to John Schwalm. About a year later he moved to Tower City and has been proprietor of Klinger's Bakery Shop there since that time.
    Mr. Klinger was a member of the EUB Church in Tower City. While living in Tremont he was a member of the Tremont EUB church and was very active in the work of the church.
    He was also a member of the K. of P Lodge 13 in Tower City; Tower City American Legion No. 468; Swataraj Lodge F. and A. M. No 267. Tremont; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Harrisburg. He served with the army during World War I.
    Surviving are his wife, the former Gertrurude Troutman. a cousin to John Schwalm of Tremont; a daughter, Ruth Klinger of Philadelphia; three sons: Arthur of Elizabethville: Kenneth of Tower City, and Ralph of Harrisburg; one sister, Mrs. Verna Shuey, Ashland R. D. and one brother, Irvan of Ashland R. D; also six grandchildren.
    His funeral was held on Wednesday morning from Stewart J. Dreisigacker Funeral Home, Tower City. Rev. Floyd E. Tice, pastor of EUB church officiated, and interment was made in the united Brethren Cemetery in Valley View.
    Among those attending the viewing on TUesday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Madara, Emma Ney, Leda Shadle, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Harper, Mr. and Mrs. John Schwalm, of Tremont, and Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Seitz of Reading, former Tremont residents.

    Gurney A. Klinger, of 1102 E. Grand Ave., died suddenly Sunday afternoon while visiting at the home of his son Kenneth at Tow er City. He was the proprietor of Klinger's Bakery Shop for the past 35 years.
    Born February 12, 1892 at Valley View he was a son of Alfred and Hannah Mattern Klinger.
    Mr. Klinger was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Tower City; Knights of Pythias No. 13, Tower City; Swatara Lodge F. and A.M. 267, Tremont; also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Harrisburg, Pa. A veteran of World War I, he served in the army in France and was a member of Tower City American Legion Post 468. He was a former member of the Tower City-Porter Rotary Club.
    Surviving are his widow, the former Gertrude Troutman; one daughter, Ruth Klinger R. N., Philadelphia; three sons: Arthur, Elizabethville; Kenneth, Tower City; Ralph, Harrisburg; one sister, Mrs. Verna Shuey, Ashland RD; one brother, Irvin Klinger, Ashland RD; six grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held this morning from the Stewart J. Dreisigacker Funeral Home. The Rev. Floyd E. Tice officiated with burial made in EUB Church Cemetery, Valley View.
