    David R. Wiest, 71, of Pisgah State Road, Shermans Dale, died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, June 14, 2020. Born October 28, 1948 in Mechanicsburg, he was the son of the late Russell C. and Norma (Nye) Wiest. David was a patriot and he served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a proud member of the Central Pennsylvania chapter of the 82nd Airborne. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, gardening, cooking, raising chickens, football, and baseball. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, LuAnne (Fry) Wiest, 4 daughters, Lurene (Lori) Wiest, CheraLynn Yankowski, Autumn Wiest and Kendra Gettys, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Steven Wiest and Jeffrey Wiest. Private services, with full military honors, will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annvlle.

    The family provided some of the following information. Steven was born Aug. 4, 1951 in Harrisburg, Pa. the son of the late Russell Wiest and Norma Wiest, who survives. Steven was a retired professor [of horticulture].
    He got his start at Rutgers University, where he worked for three years and retired from K-State after 24 years of service. He donated his time to many other universities on numerous projects and to his community and also to his friends.
    He is survived by his mother, Norma Wiest of Harrisburg, one brother, David Wiest, of Shermansdale, and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
    A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Hoover Funeral Home Crematory 601 1 Linglestown Harrisburg, Pa. Officiated by the Rev. Pamela J. Carnes and the Rev. W. Richard Feeser, burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisburg, Pa. The family will receive friends one hour priorto the service at the funeral home.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1131 22038-1131, or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 62073, Baltimore, 21264-2073.

    He was a member of Calvary Bible Fellowship Church, Coopersburg.
    Surviving besides nis widow are two daughters, Mrs. Richard Bates, at home, and Mrs. Gerry Coolinger of Wilmington, Del; a sister, Mrs. Russell Weist of Harrisburg, and three grandchildren.
    Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Willard Gruver Funeral Home, Main and Oxford streets, Coopersburg. Viewing will be 7-9 p.m. tomorrow. Arrangements are being handled from the Dino P. Cantelmi Funeral Home, 1311 Broadway, Bethlehem.
