  • Last Edited: 27 Jan 2023
  • Phillip Klinger was born on 1 April 1868, Dauphin County, PA.3,2
  • He was the son of Philip Klinger and Phoeby Ann Koch.
  • Some sources record that Phillip Klinger was born in May 1873, Pennsylvania.4
  • He married Mary Diana Tschopp, daughter of William Absalom Tschopp and Elizabeth Witmer, in 1890.5,4,6
  • At the time of the 1900 Census, Philip was a day laborer in Lykens Township, Dauphin County, PA, where he lived with his wife Mary and 3 children -- Maude, Gertrude, and Belton. Philip and Mary had been married 11 years and had given birth to 3 children.6,4
  • In the 1910 Census, Philip's first wife Mary was listed as the head of a household that included 2 of their children -- Belton G. and Irene S. -- along with a newborn grandson Royce C. Buffington. Mary was a dressmaker who owned her own shop. According to the Census, Mary had been married 20 years and had given birth to 4 children, all of whom were then living. At the same time, Philip was living on Pine Street in the Borough of Lykens, Dauphin County, with Elizabeth Tschopp, Mary's sister. Their household included 3 children -- Hattie, Mitchell, and Philip. Philip was working as a fireman at a boiler house. According to the Census, Philip and Lizzie had been married 6 years and had 3 children, but Troy Schreiber, a descendant of Philip's, indicates that Philip and Mary never divorced. Instead, they separated and Philip moved in with Mary's sister Elizabeth. Philip and Elizabeth did not marry until after Mary's death.7,8,9
  • Some sources suggest that Phillip Klinger and Elizabeth Ida Tschopp were married circa 1902.10,3
