    Leslie E. "Lefty'' Harner, 90, of 124 School Pine Grove, formerly of Tremont, died Saturday at Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading.
    Born in Valley View, Nov. 25, 1909, he was a son of the late R. Ellsworth and Frances Schwalm Harner. He was a 1927 graduate of Hegins Township High School and a 1932 graduate of Ithaca College, Ithaca, N.Y.
    He was the band director and music teacher at the former Tremont High School and later the Pine Grove High School for 40 years, retiring in 1978. He had taught music at the Braun School of Music, Pottsville.
    After high school, he was a pitcher for the former Valley View Twin County League team from 1926-28 and then for the Ithaca varsity team, before returning to the Valley View Twin County Team. In later years, he played for Donaldson of the South Anthracite League and Tremont Miners of the Twin County League, where he once pitched a complete 21-inning game against Tower City.
    In 1997, he was inducted the Ithaca College Sports Hall of Fame. In 1990, he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. His baseball career ended in 1941 after he was injured in a coal mining accident.
    He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, and St. John's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove. He was a former member and former choir director at St. John's Lutheran Church, Tremont.
    He formerly had his own dance band, "Les Harner's Dance Band."
    He was a member of Pine Grove Lodge 409, F&AM and Harrisburg Consistory. He was a former director of Lykens Fire Company Band and a member of the Tremont Fire Company Community Band.
    He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and George; two sisters, Elva Miller and Verna Stiely.
    Surviving are his wife of 67 years, the former Hilda Henry; two daughters, Janice Wolfe, Wyomissing, and Jane M. Barnes, New Cumberland; a sister, Grace Brower, Allentown; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew's UM Church. The Rev. Norman Wilson will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Valley View. Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, is in charge of arrangements.

    Born in Tremont, Sept. 16, 1917, she was a daughter of the late John F. and Lillie Smeltz Harner.
    She was a 1935 graduate of Tremont High School and a 1939 graduate of Penn State University.
    She was a retired school teacher, having taught in Hubley Township, Frailey Township, Tremont and Pine Grove Area school districts.
    Dora was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Tremont, where she had served as an organist, a church council member and a Sunday school teacher.
    She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence A. "Mike" Kohr, in 1965; her second husband, Clarence Schneck, in 2000; and a stepson, Lee Schneck.
    She is survived by a son, John E. Kohr, husband of Katherine, Tremont; a grandson, Michael D. Kohr, husband of Lyne, Big Mount; two great-grandsons, Samuel and Benjamin Kohr; a stepdaughter, Carol, wife of Donald Behney; seven step-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren.
    A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, with the Rev. Tom Degnitz officiating. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Tremont. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Tremont, or Tremont Fire Company No. 1.

    He was born at the Pottsville Hospital, Jan. 11, 1946, a son of the Late Clarence “Mike” Kohr and Dora Harner Kohr Schneck.
    He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tremont, where he was a former councilman and member of the cemetery board.
    He was a 50-year active member of Tremont Fire Company No. 1, a 27-year active member of the Donaldson Fire Company, a former Tremont Borough coun- cilman and was president of the Schuylkill County Fire Association. He was formerly active in Boy Scouts in the area.
    He was a 1964 graduate of the former Tremont High School and a 1966 graduate of Goldey Beacom College. He retired from Hershey foods after 22 years of employment there.
    In addition to his parents, he was predeceased, by a stepfather, Clarence Schneck, and a stepbrother, Lee Schneck.
    He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Katherine Kimmel Kohr; a son, Michael D. Kohr and his wife, Lyne, of Dover; a stepsister, Carol Behney and her husband, Donald, of Schuylkill Haven; two grandsons, Samuel and Benjamin Kohr, of Dover.
    A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Minnig-Berger Funeral Home in Tremont. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Tremont.

    Mrs. Mary E. Mentzer, 44, wife of C. L. Mentzer of Maple St, Valley View, a teacher of piano music and graduate and post graduate of the Braun School of Music in Pottsvville, died Tuesday evening in Geisinger Medical Center at Danville.
    Mrs. Mentzer, born on Oct 8, 1919 at Valley View, was a daughter of James and Elva Harner Miller, who own and operated a general store at Valley View.
    Her husband is supervising principal of Tri-Valley Elementary School.
    Mrs. Mentzer was an active member of Evangelical United Brethren Church, its Sunday School and choir. She served as pianist for the Sunday School, the Men's Choir and Christian Endeavor Society.
    At the age of 16 she won first place in the state championship of the Piano Forensic League, and was one of the first 10 winners in the nation at that time.
    Surviving are, her husband, who is the son of the Rev. H. M. Mentzer and Mrs. Mentzer of Valley View; her parents; and a brother Ned E. Miller, supervisor of education in the Boys Reformatiry at St. Petersburg, Va.
    Funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon from the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Valley View. The Rev. Donald Morgan of Sunbury, assisted by the Rev. C. R. Swartz of Valley View, will officiate at services. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home at Valley View is In charge of arrangements.

    He was one the founders and helped organize both the Port Charlotte Christian School and the Charlotte Christian Academy.
    He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Mentzer of Port Charlotte; three sons; David, Dr. Ricky and Lanny, all of Port Charlqtte; a brother, Warren of Mount Gretna, Pa; and two grandchildren.

    Ned E. Miller, age 76, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999.
    He was born in Pennsylvania on April 10, 1923. Music was a big part of Ned's life. He was a member of the Army Air Corps Band during World War IL Following the war, he received a degree in music from Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania. After earning his Masters in music from Columbia University in New York, he moved to Dallas where he was the band director at Greiner Junior High and then at Sunset High School. He also served as choir director and organist for the Kessler Park Methodist Church in Dallas where he became Minister of Music. He was a member of the American Legion Band and played with various dance bands throughout the area.
    He had a 20 year career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and was posted at Seagoville, Texas, Petersburg, Virginia, Lompoc, California, Milan, Michigan, retiring out of Atlanta, Georgia. He returned to Texas in 1973, where he worked in the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor's office for 10 years.
    Ned is survived by his wife of seven years, Ruth Miller of Austin; his daughter, Diane Reed and her husband, Joel, of Las Vegas, daughter, Judy Trojan and her husband, Randy, of Temple, daughter, Nancy Melllor and her husband, Gary, of Las Vegas. He is also survived by his children, Jeff Hulsey and his wife, Robin, of Pflugerville, DeDe Koslan and her husband, Jess, of Hutto, Kim Tucker and her husband, Lew, of Cullman, Alabama; and 15 grandchildren.
    The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 1999, at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 1999, at Riverbend Church with Dr. Gordon Smith as the officiant. Interment to follow at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Memorial Park.

    MILLERSBURG - James H. "Jim" Martz, age 81, of Millersburg passed away on January 9, 2019 at Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill. He was born on October 12, 1937 in Lykens, son of the late Daisy and Harry Martz of Lykens.
    Jim graduated from the former Lykens High School in 1955. He was retired from AT&T, and he also served in the U.S. Air Force and the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching all kinds of sports. His favorites were Penn State Football and Duke Basketball.
    Jim is survived by his wife Jacqueline Martz, of Millersburg, as well as a daughter Kimbra Feidt and a son Douglas Martz, also both of Millersburg. He is also survived by two grandchildren; Shaun Feidt of Harrisburg and Troy Feidt of Millersburg; two great-grandchildren Chloe and Cael Feidt of Harrisburg; a sister Carol Laudenslager of Erdman; and many neices and nephews.
    Memorial Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Jim's honor be made to the Millersburg Gun & Conservation Club, P.O.
