    Mrs. Clara Estella Underkoffler, 64, wife of Charles Underkoffler, Valley View, died Monday evening at her home, after a lingering illness. She was a daughter of the late Paul and Agatha Schwalm Wolfgang and was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church and Rebekah Lodge.
    Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Russell, of Locust Gap, and Dr. Alvin Underkoffler, Bedford, N. Y., four grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Mary Rickert, of Allentown.
    Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Friday at the Miller funeral home, Valley View, and continued at the EUB church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

  • Ray served in World War I as a member of the 7th Field Artillery. He was awarded a silver star for his conduct during the Aisne-Marne offensive of July 18 to July 25, in France. Ray was a school teacher in Hegins Township. There is a short biography of Ray in the 1988 Journal of the Johannes Schwalm Historical Association, vol. 3, no. 4, p. 73. He lived in Valley View, Schuylkill County, PA.2,4

    He was born in Valley View, a son of the late William and Bella Wolfgang Troutman.
    He was a retired school teacher from Tri-Valley High School, where he worked for about 45 years. He also taught Sunday school and served as a Sunday school director for about 50 years.
    Mr. Troutman was a member of Church of God, the Tri-Valley Historical Society and the Fruit Growers Association. He also served as a township auditor and was a member of the Tri-Valley Senior Citizens.
    He was a veteran of World War I, and was a member of the American Legion at Valley View, the Eureka Lodge, No. 260 in Leck Kill and the American Association of Retired Teachers.
    Surviving are his wife, the former Florence Herb; two daughters, Helen, wife of Jack Rickles, Great Falls, Va. and Fern Mohor, Bordman, Ohio; four sons, William, Arlington, Va., James, Saginow, Mich., Gene, Williamsport and Glenn, Lititz; two sisters, Edna Butz, Allentown and Laura Deitrich, Valley View; two brothers, Elvin Troutman, Hegins and Bruce Troutman, Pitman; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at Church of God, Valley View with the Rev. Lee Snyder officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

    Helen Irene Rickels (Age 91) On March 8, 2020, Helen died suddenly at the age of 91.
    Helen was born on April 20, 1928, in Valley View, PA, as the first of six children of Ray and Florence Troutman. Helen began preparing for a music career at an early age, when her mother taught her to play the piano. She went on to perfect her skills on the piano and organ. As an accomplished organist she has played in many churches in the Washington area as well as around the world. She also served as the organist for many American University graduations.
    After moving to DC, Helen met her future husband, Jack Rickels. Helen and Jack spent many years traveling the world while Jack was a Captain in the Navy. She particularly enjoyed their time while stationed in Naples, Italy, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. When Jack retired from the Navy, they returned to the DC area and lived in a house that Jack designed. Helen, Jack, and their dogs had many happy years there.
    After Jack’s death in 2009, Helen moved to the Falcons Landing retirement community.
    Helen is survived by brothers, William Troutman and wife Ellen, Jim Troutman and wife Cathy, Glen Troutman and wife Mary; sister-in-law, Beverly Troutman; as well as many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and -nephews, and great-grandnephews.
    Helen was predeceased by her sister, Fern Mohar; and brother, Gene Troutman.
    A memorial service and inurnment to be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.3

    Gene J. Troutman, 80, of Cogan Station died Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital.
    Born August 4, 1937 in Valley View, PA, he was a son of the late Ray and Florence (Herb) Troutman.
    Gene was a graduate of Tri Valley High School and Williamsport Technical Institute; and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Gene was a proud retiree of PP&L.
    Gene loved his “little piece of heaven” in Cogan Station, where he and his family lived for over 45 years. He especially enjoyed gardening, working in his woodshop, riding his ATV and walking the dog.
    He is survived by friends and family who will miss him very much. His wife of 52 years, Beverly L. (Hartman) Troutman, five children, Michelle (Jeffrey) Keyser of Dillsburg, Craig (Nanette) Troutman of South Williamsport, Scott (Carissa) Troutman of Dillsburg, Tanya (Nathan) Shipman of Cogan Station and Jason (Angela) Troutman of Lewisberry, 11 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; siblings, Helen Rickels, Bill (Ellen) Troutman, Jim (Cathy) Troutman and Glenn (Mary) Troutman.
    He was preceded in death by his sister, Ferne Mohar, and his grandson, Andrew Troutman.
    A funeral service to honor the life of Gene will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. with the Rev. David Fishel, officiating. There will be a viewing from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
    Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s memory to the Gatehouse C/O The Susquehanna Health Foundation, 1001 Grampian Blvd. Williamsport, PA 17701.5
