    Abraham Rothermel was born in Oley township, Berks county, Aug. 22, 1777; came to Northumberland county after his marriage, and lived near Rebuck, in what is now Washington township. He owned a large farm
    (now in the possession of Daniel Kahler), was a blacksmith by trade, and was noted for his strength. He died Feb. 23, 1861, when over eighty-three years old, and he and his wife, Catharine Yeager (or Feager), are buried at the Himmel Church; she was born Dec. 21, 1779, and died Sept. 1, 1872, when over ninety-two years old. This worthy couple were the parents of the following children: Charles, mentioned at length below; Martin, who located in Ogle county, Ill. (his son Robert served in the Union army, and he had also a son Amos); Hannah, who married Michael Emerich (no children); Susanna, who married Jacob Hoffman, of Washington, Northumberland county; Mary, whose first husband was a Mr. Geist, her second Andrew Kahler (they located at Red Bank, in Jefferson county, Pa.)3

    William Wiest, 73, retired lumberman of Portland, died at his home at 403 East Forty-first Street North, recently following a short illness caused by pneumonia. He was the last of five brothers who came to the Pacific northwest in 1878.
    Mr. Wiest was born in Hebe, Pa., in 1855. He journeyed to San Francisco in 1878 with his four brothers and in the same year started logging operations at Oak Point, Wash., on the Columbia River. He later moved to Stella, Wash., where he continued in the logging business. He discontinued active participation in logging when he joined the East Side Mill & Lumber Company of Portland. Five years ago he retired.
    His widow, Mrs. Elmira (Powell (Paul)) Wiest, survives him in addition to two sons and one daughter: John Wiest, 379 East Twenty-fourth Street; Cyrus Wiest, 485 East Fifty-first Street; and Mrs. John Baum (Sevilla)Wiest, 508 East Fortieth Street North. Interment was at the Portland Crematorium.2
