    Charles M. Klinger of Gratz died suddenly on Monday, at the age of 77 years.
    Mr. Klinger was a son of Peter and Anna (Minnich) Klinger and was a native of Lykens Township. His wife, the former Emma Schoffstall, preceded him in death twenty-two years ago. Mr. Klinger was a member of Simeon Reformed Church, Gratz.
    Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Reuben Muth of Gratz; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
    Services will be held from the Marlin S. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, at 10:00 o'clock Friday morning. Rev. E. R. Marks, pastor of Lvkens Valley Reformed Chargene will officiate, and interment will be in the Gratz Cemetery.

  • According to the Deppen Family History ("Counting Kindred"), Barbara Wiest and Abraham Deppen had a child, Henry W. Deppen, before each one married other persons.
  • She married Daniel B. Snyder.5,2

John Klinger Wiest

  • He was the son of Samuel Wiest and Eve Elizabeth Klinger.
  • John Klinger Wiest married Lucetta Beisel.
  • Although John was born after his family migrated from Berks County, he was known as "Oley John" and his family as the "Oley Wiests." He farmed 150 acres on the Mahantongo Creek, Schuylkill County. He was the first member of his family to venture west and went to California around the time of Gold Rush of 1849, before later returning to Klingerstown. According to some sources he made a "fortune" in the gold fields. All of his adult children, except Elizabeth and Daniel, later settled in Oregon and Washington.1
