Herndon RD1 Man Killed, 2 Hurt In Harrisburg Crash
Paul R. Rothermel, 52, of Herndon RD1, was killed, and two other men were injured Thursday afternoon in a car-truck accident in Harrisburg.
Police said Rothermel and Clyde Snyder, 52, of Dalmatia RD1, were passengers in an auto driven by Walter G. Parmer, 57, of Halifax RD1.
These men were en route to their jobs at Harrisburg Steel Corp. when the accident occurred.
Snyder was admitted to Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital in satisfactory condition with facial fractures. Parmer was treated for a nose injury and released.
Driver of the truck, who escaped injury, was identified by police as Paul H. Kramer, 47, of Harrisburg.
Rothermel was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple injuries.
According to Harrisburg police, both the car, a 1961 model, and the tractor-trailer truck, a tanker owned by Fuel Oil Service, Inc., of Hummelstown, were traveling south in the 3200 block of rain-slicked N. Front St.
Police said the car apparently was passing the truck, started to skid, crossed in front of the tanker and jumped the west curb. The auto then traveled approximately 30 feet and clammed into a tree.
The truck then struck the rear of the car, police reported, knocking it around so it was facing north, and the rig jack-knifed in the street.
Police said Rothermel was sitting in the right front seat of the auto, while Snyder was sitting in the rear.
    Native Of Rebuck
Paul R. Rothermel was born May 29, 1915, at Rebuck, a son of Samuel E. Rothermel and the late Goldie Rebuck Rothermel.
