  • Laura Mae Troutman married Harry F. Dietrich, son of Edward Deitrich and Jennie Irene Keifer, on 12 October 1935; Laura and Harry eloped to Elkton, Maryland , and later kept their marriage a secret.1,3
  • Laura was a teacher in the Hegins Township (later called the Tri-Valley) School system for more than 41 years. There is a short biography of Laura in the 1988 Journal of the Johannes Schwalm Historical Association, vol. 3, no. 4, p. 73, based on recollections by her daughter, Lorraine.3

    Laura M. Deitrich
    Laura M. Deitrich, 79, of Hegins area, died Tuesday morning at her home.
    Born in Valley View, Jan. 19, 1906, she was a daughter of the late William and Bella Wolfgang Troutman.
    Mrs. Deitrich taught elementary school for 42 years in Tri-Valley School District before retiring.
    She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Valley View, its Ladies Bible Class, National Retired Teachers Association and the Tri-Valley Senior Citizens.
    Her husband, Harry, died in 1978.
    Surviving are a son, Daniel D., Winchester, Va; a daughter, Lorraine, Hegins area; a sister, Edna Butz, Allentown; two brothers, Elvin Troutman, Hegins area, and Bruce Troutman, Pitman; three grandchildren.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Valley View. The Rev. Donald Fishel, pastor of St. Andrews, will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Robert Miller Funeral Home, Valley View, has charge.
