    MILLERSBURG - Barbara E. Strawser, age 83, of Berrysburg, died January 10, 2024, at Northern Dauphin Nursing Home.
    She was born on October 29, 1940 in Gratz, PA the daughter of the late John A. Straub and Lottie May (Leitzel) Straub.
    Barbara was married to the late Dale L. Strawser for 23 years.
    She worked as a beautician in her own shop in Berrysburg for the majority of her career. She was a consultant for Homemaker Idea Company, and for Mary Kay Cosmetics.
    Barbara was a member of David's Community Bible Church, Millersburg, where she served on the decorating committee, she belonged to a group of friends that played together as the Card Club.
    She enjoyed decorating and crafts.
    She is survived by her son Jeffrey Witmer and his wife Kimberly, daughter Jacalyn Boyer and her husband Ronald, son Kirby Witmer and his wife Lisa, son Michael Witmer, daughter Michelle Bondra and her husband Michael, step-children Scott Strawser and his wife Kim, step-son Shawn Stawser and is wife Kathy, step-daughter Shelby Dickey and her husband Corey, grandchildren Courtney, Joshua, Andrew, Alexander, Sydney, Owen, Penelope, Adam, Jazmyn, Paden, Kylie, Kole, great grandchildren Madelynn and James. She is also survived by her sister Charlotte Binghaman and her husband David.
    The family will receive friends on Monday, January 15, 2024 at David's Community Bible Church from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM, with burial to follow at Stone Valley Cemetery.
    The family requests that memorial donations may be made to David's Community Bible Church, 1072 PA-25, Millersburg, PA 17061.

    MILLERSBURG - Dale L. Strawser, age 80, of Mechanicsburg, died November 8, 2023, at UPMC Hillman Center with a brief battle with cancer.
    He was born on February 18, 1943 in Herndon, PA the son of the late Milford Strawser and Grace (Wolfe) Strawser.
    Dale was married to Barbara (Witmer) Strawser for 23 years.
    He retired as a sorter from UPS, in Harrisburg after 35 years of service. He was a 1961 graduate of Lower Mahanoy High School.
    Dale was a member of David's Community Bible Church, Millersburg. He was a loving, caring, faithful husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed golfing.
    He was preceded in death by his first wife Erla D. (Long) Strawser who passed in 1998, Son, Troy Strawser and a a sister Patricia Beem.
    In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by his son Scott Strawser and his wife Kim of Dalmatia, son Shawn Stawser and is wife Kathy of Lewistown, daughter Shelby Dickey and her husband Corey of Mechanicsburg, grandchildren Adam Strawser, Jazmyn and Paden Dickey, and Kylie and Kole Strawser, and a brother Gary (Dim) Strawser of New Columbia.
    A graveside service will be held privately at the convenience of the family at Stone Valley Cemetery.

    Kenneth was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a mechanic and retired from the Steelton-Highspire Railroad. He was a member of Peace UCC in Berrysburg. Kenneth enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Silver Stragglers Golf League at Lykens Valley Golf Course.
    In addition to his wife, Alice, Kenneth is survived by his son Edward and his wife Nizza; three sisters Barbara Strawser (Dale), Bernice Witmer (James), Charlotte Bingaman (David); two sisters-in-law, Naomi Straub and Grace Straub; a son-in-law Neil Harris. He was preceded in death by a daughter Linda Harris.

    Mary Straub Messner, 55, of Halifax area, died Monday in Polyclinic Medical Center, Harrisburg.
    She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Halifax, and a past president of the Sunday school class. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5507 Auxiliary.
    Surviving are her husband, Martin L; a daughter, Wanda L. Hall, Duncannon area; three sons, Dennis O., Duncannon, Timothy A., Halifax, and Anthony W., at home; five grandchildren; six sisters, Laura Snyder, Elizabethville, Mildred Laudenslager, Pillow, Bernice Witmer, Millersburg area, Gladys Schultz, Elizabethville area, Charlotte Bingaman, Herndon area, and Barbara Witmer, Berrysburg; four brothers, Marlin Straub, Pillow, William Straub, Lykens area, Robert Straub, Millersburg area, and Kenneth Straub, Halifax area.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Christ Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert Wittlinger will officiate. Interment will be in Long's Cemetery. Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg, is in charge of arrangements.

  • He was the son of Gottfried Leitzel and Magdalena Wagner.1
  • Benjamin E. Leitzel married Elizabeth Byerly, daughter of Ludwig Byerly and Elizabeth Beisel, circa 1828, Jordan Township, Northumberland County, PA.1
  • Floyd, Biographical and Genealogical Annals of Northumberland County (1911) says:
    "Benjamin Leitzel, son of Godfried, was born Jan. 25, 1803, in Mahanoy (now Jordan) township, Northumberland county. He owned the 300-acre farm in Jordan township previously mentioned, and other land, near Klingerstown, and he was an enterprising worker, prospering in all he undertook, He followed farming during the summer months, and weaving in the wintertime. For seven years he served as a captain in the State militia, the local troops drilling at Mahanoy, where they met twice a year, and the battalion days were also held there. He was a good disciplinarian, a man of medium size, and one who commanded respect wherever he went. In polities he was a Democrat, in religion a Lutheran, and he held various church offices, serving as deacon, elder and trustee. Mr. Leitzel died Feb. 27, 1881, and is buried at Hebe. His wife, Elizabeth Byerly, daughter of Ludwig Byerly, born June 3, 1808, died March 20, 1891. They were the parents of eight children: Sarah married James Troutman; George B. is mentioned below; Lydia married William Troutman; Benjamin B. and David B., twins, are mentioned below; Elizabeth died young; twins, died in infancy."2
