  • William Klark Troutman is also referred to as Wilhelm Trautman in some sources.1
  • He was born on 18 January 1831, Dauphin County, PA.2,3
  • He was the son of George T. Troutman and Justina Clark.
  • William Klark Troutman married Lydia Leitzel, daughter of Benjamin E. Leitzel and Elizabeth Byerly.2
  • William Klark Troutman married Catherine Masser, daughter of John Masser and Catharine Klinger, after 1869.4
  • William Klark Troutman died on 2 November 1897, at age 66.5
  • He was buried at Saint David's Lutheran and Reformed Church Cemetery, Hebe, Northumberland County, PA.6
  • Biographical and Genealogical Annals of Northumberland County (1911) states:
William K. Troutman, son of George T., was born in Northumberland county, and was a farmer of Jordan township, where he had a tract of 125 acres which he cultivated during his active years. Later, when he retired, he moved to a small place near Hebe. During his early years he was a tenant farmer, but by hard work and thrift he became well-to-do, and he was one of the respected citizens of his township, which he served as tax collector. Politically he was a Republican, and during the Civil war he served in the Union army, as a member of Company K, 172d Regiment. He and his family worshipped with the Reformed congregation at Hebe, and he served as elder and trustee of the church.
Mr. Troutman's first wife, Lydia (Leitzel), daughter of Benjamin Leitzel, was born Jan. 15, 1834, and died Nov. 26, 1868, the mother of seven children: Amelia married Peter Kratzer; Elizabeth married William Bohner; Catharine married Peter Boyer; Lydia married William Hoffman; Emma married John Long; Cossom married Maggie Shaud; William L. is mentioned below. The father died Nov. 2, 1897, aged sixty-six years, nine months, fourteen days, and is buried at Hebe by the side of his first wife.7

George T. Troutman

M, #8989, b. 27 January 1804, d. 14 February 1869
  • Last Edited: 27 Dec 2022
  • George T. Troutman was born on 27 January 1804.1
  • He was the son of Abraham Troutman and Elizabeth Regina Tschopp.
  • George T. Troutman married Justina Clark, daughter of Johannes R. Clark and Anna Maria Bauman, circa 1829.1
  • George T. Troutman died on 14 February 1869, at age 65.2,3,1
  • Mary Klinger, Klingers from the Odenwald, Hesse, Germany, p. 259, says that George T. Troutman's parents were "Joseph Troutman and Magdalena Brosius." It appears that she may be confusing two different people. There was a "Jacob" Troutman married to Magdalena Brosius, but according to Biographical and Genealogical Annals of Northumberland County, they probably did not have a child named George. Moreover, Biographical and Genealogical Annals of Northumberland County says, with respect to George T. Troutman (married to Jestina Klark):
"Joseph Troutman, great-grandfather of William L. Troutman, of Hebe, in Jordan township, was a farmer of that township.
"George T. Troutman, son of Joseph, born Jan. 27, 1804, was a farmer in Jordan township, owning the place which he occupied and cultivated. It is now the property of S. W. Reed, a farm of about 130 acres. He married Jestina Klark, who was born Nov. 22, 1811, and died June 4, 1876, surviving Mr. Troutman, who passed away Feb. 14, 1869. They are buried at Hebe. Their children were: William K., Henry K., Joseph K (died Dec. 27, 1906, aged sixty-six years, eight months, two days; wife Esther died May 31, 1888, aged forty-three years, three months, fifteen days), Aaron K., Harriet, Catharine, Louisa, Helena, Mary and Sarah." William L. Troutman, referred to at the beginning of this passage, was the son of William K. Troutman. While Floyd discusses a number of different branches of Troutmans, some of which may be connected, Floyd does not suggest how Joseph, father of George T., may have been connected to these other lines.
On p. 269, however, Mary Klinger says that George T. Troutman was the son of Jacob Troutman (b. 22 Nov 1768, d. Nov. 1869) and Maria Williamson (b. 22 Oct. 1778, d. 89 Dec. 1869). She further suggests that Jacob was the son of Peter and Anna (Leisenring) Troutman, who may have been on the Ship Neptune with John Philip Klinger and Peter Klinger in 1751.
Other sources, such as Bruce Travis, and the Meisers, Genealogists Guide to Northummberlland County Buurials, vol. III, p. 403, say that George T. Traoutman was the son of Abraham (9 Dec 1773-1 Apr 1852) and Elizabeth (Tschopp) Troutman. This Abraham, supposedly, was the son of Peter Troutman and Eva Eizabeth (?).Both this Abraham and George T. are buried at St. David's Church in Hebe. Mr. Travis writes:
"Abraham Troutman (Sr.) is the father of George T. Troutman. The evidence provided in Steve E. Troutman's book(s), The Trautmen/Troutman Family History, supports this assertion with an abundance of evidence.

"On page 487 (Vol. 1), Steve presents a Family Group Sheet (FGS) for Abraham (Sr) and Elizabeth (Tschopp) Trautman late lists George T. Trautman as the second (of 13) children and eldest son born to this couple. The FGS shows: Abraham (12/9/1773-4/1/1852); Elizabeth (10/7/1780-5/9/1844); George T. (1/27/1804-2/14/1869); and identifies Jestina Klark as the wife of George T. The most compelling evidence that George T. is the son of Abraham and Elizabeth is the fact that George T. is identified as the eldest son and heir of Abraham in a petition filed in the Northumberland Co. Court House. [Vol. 1, p. 505] There are numerous other references throughout this book citing this relationship.

"In fact, on page 326 of his book, Steve addresses the specific claim to the contrary (i.e., the assertion in Floyd's book, you mention in your message, that George T. was the son of one Joseph Trautman). "Another correction on page 737 ( Floyd) ..... concerning the family cousins, George T. Trautman was s/o Abm. (1773-1852), not Joseph as recorded." "
