  • Amelia Viola Straub died on 5 February 1894.1
  • She was born on 5 February 1894, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, PA.2
  • She was the daughter of George Brady Straub and Catherine Senora Klinger.
  • Amelia Viola Straub was buried at Zion (Klinger's) Church Cemetery, Erdman, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, PA.1
  • According to a number of sources, Amelia Viola Straub married Ira Schlegel around 1912, but according to the Klinger's Church History, Amelia, the daughter of George Brady and Catharina Straub, died Feb. 5, 1894, apparently in infancy. According to those sources, Amelia and Ira had a daughter named Dora, born 24 Oct. 1919. Census records suggest, however, that Ira Schlegel's wife, "Hannah" was not born until about 1903, making it unlikely that she was George Brady Straub's daughter Amelia. It is more likely that Ira Schlegel married Amelia's sister Bertha Hannah Straub.1,3

  • Ada May Klinger was born on 24 August 1906, Schuylkill County, PA.3,4,5
  • She was the daughter of Gordon Edwin Klinger and Jennie Sarah Rothermal.2
  • Ada May Klinger married Allen Henry Wolfe, son of Jacob Milton Wolfe and Mary Liza Harner, on 26 February 1925, Valley View, Schuylkill County, PA.2
  • Ada was one of the original members of the Wolfe Family Band which was formed in 1959. As a 1986 newspaper article reported:
Wolfe Family Keeps Square Dancing Tradition Going
By DARLA LOTZ For The Daily News
GRATZ For some people in Schuylkill County, hoedowns and square dances are considered church activities, occasional get-togethers or something you hear about from the neighbors. But for others, it is almost a way of life and a downright family affair.
For 27 years, the Wolfe family in Gratz has been attending as many as four or five such functions a month, but they don't come to dance. They come with accordion, squeeze box, violins (or fiddles, as some prefer to call them), drums, guitar, electric bass, and yards of cord attached to microphones and amplifiers. The Wolfe family provides foot-stomping music for the crowds to dance, and one of the family "calls for the dancing squares.
Three members of the present band were in the original band when they gathered in 1959 because "they liked to play. Ada Wolfe, who plays guitar, was 54 when the band formed. Her daughter, Carol Ney, was only 16 when she bought an accordion, and the next year she became one of the original members of the family band. Naomi Straub, sister of Ada Wolfe, plays fiddle and squeeze box. A squeeze box works on the same principal as an accordion, but it does not have a keyboard on one end, just buttons.
Other family members who have since joined the band are Robert Wolfe, electric bass player and caller; Andy Ney, 15, violin player; and Danny Willard, 15, drummer. The two younger bovs are the only members who have had any formal training in what they do.
The first performance by the Wolfe family was in the Community Center in Gratz, which has since been converted to a night club. The band performs at private parties, weddings, church events and other organizational activities such as at the Senior Citizen Center. They play various types of music in addition to square dancing music. And its during these songs that Robert Wolfe plays electric bass instead of singing calls. I get stuck when I try to do both at the same time, he says.
The Wolfe family performs in the Gratz area, Pine Grove area, and varius spots along the way. They have few jobs in the summer when the weather is too hot for dancing. But once the evenings cool off come September, they may have four or five performances in one month.
