    Palmer graduated from the Hegins Township High School in 1953 and served with the US Army from 1958-1964.
    He was the former owner of Palmer H Reed Motor Sales, a family owned company that had been in the family for nearly 100 years.
    He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Valley View and various other local organizations.
    He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille K (Kissinger) Reed, who passed away in 2007.

    Lancaster - Bruce L. Reed, 77, of Lancaster went to be with his Lord on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Rose City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the loving husband of Susan (Sweeney) Vaughn Reed of Lancaster. Mr. and Mrs. Reed were married for over 20 years.
    Born December 24, 1942 in Valley View, PA, Bruce was the son of the late Palmer H. and Mildred T. (Reed) Reed.
    Bruce graduated from Tri-Valley High School where he was the quarterback of their first football team. He attended Ford School of Business and graduated from Penn State University with a Business Logistics degree. Following college, he played semi-pro ice hockey.
    He worked formerly for Armstrong in Lancaster and retired from Case New Holland (Sperry New Holland).
    Bruce was a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Lancaster. He loved to garden and spend time at the beach.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey P. Reed of Lancaster; daughter, Courtney Stork and her husband, Rich of Lancaster; 2 step-sons, Peter M. Vaughn, Esq. of York and Matthew T. Vaughn and his wife, Megan of Greenville, DE; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, Fredrick Reed and his wife, Barbara of Mesquite, NV. He was preceded in death by a brother, Palmer "Sunny" H. Reed, Jr.
    Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at a later date. A private burial will be held in the Memorial Garden of First Presbyterian Church of York.

    He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Valley View; F&AM Lodge 797 of Valley View; Harrisburg Consistory; Zembo Temple and Hegins/Valley View Rotary Club.
    He was preceded in death by a brother, Palmer H. Reed.
    Surviving are a son, Donald C. Reed of Lancaster; a daughter, Alice M. Miller of Valley View; four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held Feb. 3 at his church in Valley View. Burial was in the church cemetery.4

    Ray Herman Herb, 64, of Orwigsburg, died at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Shartlesville Hotel where he had been manager for the past six years. His death was due to natural causes.
    Mr. Herb was born in Valley View, August 11, 1900, a son of and Harriet Erdman Herb and lived in Orwigsburg since 1925. His wife, the former Alberta Reed of Hegins, died in 1936.

  • Phaon Ray Herb was baptized on 5 September 1921, St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, Hegins Township, Schuylkill County, PA.2

  • Phaon served in the Army Air Corps and was a member of the 13th Air Force and 42nd bomb group 75th Bomb Squadron. He flew 60 combat missions and was shot down on the second mission on Nov. 30, 1943, ditching the aircraft within a short distance of the seaplane base in the Shorthand Islands that was bombed.
    He flew 26 more missions and was forced down for an emergency landing on Bougainvillea in the Solomon Islands. After 50 missions, he started flying out of New Guinea, and after a total of 60 missions was grounded flying combat. He flew shuttle to Sydney, Australia, for rest and relaxation for the troops.
    Returning to the United States in December 1943, he had R&R and then went to Aviation Cadet Preflight School, San Antonio, Texas, where he served as squadron commander. Upon finishing preflight school, he accepted his honorable discharge and was awarded Good Conduct Medal, four Bronze Stars, nine Air Medals and the Purple Heart.
    He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier for 19 years in Orwigsburg and was then appointed postmaster of the Orwigsburg location, serving for 11 years. He retired in 1977.6

    Born in Valley View, May 22, 1921, he was a son of the late Ray H. and Alberta E. Reed Herb.

He was president of the Temple Association and treasurer of Schuylkill Lodge 138; past representative to the commander in chief of the Lehigh Consistory; past Most Wise Master of Bethlehem Chapter of Rose Croix; past commander in chief of Lehigh Consistory, and Coroneted 33rd Degree in 1984 in Boston, Mass. He was member of the York Rite Council; past officer of Mountain City Royal Arch Chapter 196; past officer of commandry and past officer of the Red Cross of Constantine, Reading.
    A charter member of the Schuylkill Hi 12 Club, he was a life member and past commander of VFW Post 2198, Orwigsburg, life member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 21, Pottsville, life member of Schuylkill Haven Senior Citizens and a member of Hose, Hook and Ladder Fire Company, Pine Grove. He assisted in building the original Scout hall in Orwigsburg and was a Scout committee man for many years.
    He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Orwigsburg, and served as president of the Board of Christian Education and as Sunday school superintendent. He served as a deacon and elder for many years.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian A. Leininger; two brothers, Jay J. and John R. Herb.
    Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Virginia C. Shugars Herb, whom he married Nov. 27, 1946; two sons, Richard P., husband of Ann Herb, Stasburg, Colo., and Thomas G., husband of Jill Herb, Winchester, Va; two grandsons, Nathaniel R., husband of Tracie Herb, Strasburg, Colo., and Ethan W.     He was the owner and operator of Otis Herb Construction Company, Philadelphia for 20 years. After retiring at age 62, he passed the company to his son, Kenneth.
    Otis attended Immanuel United Church of Christ, Shillington. He was a long standing member of United Methodist Christ Church, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
    He was a member of Unit 5 SeeBees in Ft. Lauderdale, and a member of The Heritage Veterans group.
    Otis loved golf, nature, his business and working in construction.
    He loved his wife and family, and had many friends. He will be missed dearly by all who loved him.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Robert S., husband of Pam Herb, Huntington Beach, CA; Kenneth S., husband of Linda Herb, The Villages, FL and Ronald K., husband of Robin Herb, Cumru Township; two sisters, Elsie Erk and June Ebbert; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
    Otis was predeceased by one sister, Vivian and four brothers, Phaon, James, Jay and John.
    Memorial Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Immanuel UCC, 99 S. Waverly St., Shillington, PA 19607. Burial will be private in Hillside Cemetery, Glenside.     Born June 11, 1930 in Orwigsburg, he was a son of the late Ray and Alverta (Reed) Herb.
    A 1948 graduate of the Hershey Industrial School; he was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. After serving in the Navy, he worked in construction and later was owner of Lebanon Valley Kitchens, Palmyra. He was an outstanding craftsman, known for his unique designing of cabinets and furniture, and as a hobby became interested in carving canes and walking sticks. He was a member of the American National Cane Club where the club donated many canes to disabled veterans. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
    Surviving are his wife of 60 years Betty Mae (Reber) Herb; daughters Linda Mae, wife of James Horstick and Brenda Jean, wife of Mike Miller all of Lebanon; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother Otis, husband of Edna Herb of Reading; sisters Elsie Erk of Colorado and June, wife of William Ebbert of Florida.
    He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
    A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Buse Funeral Home, 145 North Grant Street, Palmyra. Interment, with military honors, will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

June enjoyed traveling, and cruises, but her true passion was time spent with family. She cherished her faith, her husband, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.     He was born in Orwigsburg, a son of the late Ray and Alverta (Reed) Herb. He was married to the former Sandra G. Ressler, who survives.
    He was a 1953 graduate of Hegins Township High School and attended the University of Maryland. He served in the Army 11th Airborne during the Korean War, stationed in France.
    John was employed by AT&T, Sears, Spread Eagle Farms, Witmer Motors and the Engle-Rissinger Auto Group.
    He was a member of Zion Stone Valley Church, where he served as council president and Sunday school superintendent. At the time of his passing, he was a choir member and Sunday school teacher. He also was a member of Herndon Lodge 702, Free & Accepted Masons, and Tall Cedars 125, Millersburg Forest.
    John was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Holly H. and Todd Drumheiser, of Selinsgrove; one grandson, Jacob Reed Robinski; three brothers, Phaon, of Pine Grove, Jim, of Palmyra, and Otis, of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Fla; and two sisters, June Ebbert, of Holly Hills, Fla., and Elsie Erk, of Erie, Colo.
    He was preceded in death by one brother, Jay, and one sister, Vivian Leininger.
    The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Stone Valley Church, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. J. Robert Snyder officiating.
    Burial with military honors will be in St. Andrew's United Methodist Cemetery, Valley View.
    Memorial donations may be made in John's memory to Zion Stone Valley Church, 1899 Mountain Road, Dalmatia, PA 17017, or to the donor's favorite charity.

    He was the lead vocalist for the local band Siege, he was involved in local dirt track racing as a sprint car driver, he played ice hockey as a goalie, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a fan of the Philadelphia pro sports teams as well as the Hershey Bears.
    Mark was a loving, caring and supportive husband and father, his family always came first to him.
    Surviving are his wife Julie E. (May) Fasnacht, his daughter Megan A. Fasnacht of Middletown, his stepdaughter Laura M. McCorts and her companion Esteban Villarreal of Middletown, his stepson Ian S. McCorts and his wife Lindsay of Londonderry Township, his father William H. Leininger and his companion Chris Evitts of Palmyra, his two brothers Doug Leininger and his wife Kathy of Ocean City, MD, Andrew Leininger of Hummelstown, his father-in-law Earl May of Enhaut, six grandchildren, two aunts, an uncle and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Carol Ann Fasnacht.
