    Born in Schuylkill County, he was a son of Joel and Carol Willier Stutzman, Lancaster.
    He attended Penn State University and served four years in the Air Force.
    He was employed as a quality assurance manager over the years, most recently for Raytheon Corp. in York County.
    Steve was an active member of Ironville UMC and deeply loved his church family.
    He loved fishing, hunting and camping at the family cabin. He especially adored his daughter, Alyssa, and his nieces and nephews. Steve was a very kind, caring and conscientious person and will be truly missed by many.
    In addition to his parents and daughter, Steve is survived by two brothers, James S., married to Kerry, and Joel A., married to Santina; a sister, Julie A., married to Jeffrey Milne; four nephews and five nieces.
    A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ironville UMC, 4020 Holly Drive, Columbia, with the Rev. Charles Deutsch officiating. Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Kindly omit flowers.     He was a 1965 graduate of Tri-Valley High School and a graduate of Williamsport Area Community College.
    He was an electrical inspector for American Inspection Agency, Reading.
    He was of the Protestant Faith.
    He was a member of the IBEW and IBEI unions, F&AM Robert Burns Lodge, Newport, and the Harrisburg Consistory.
    Ed was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, hiker and a devoted grandfather.
    He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Hoffman Stutzman, to whom he was married for 45 years.
    He is also survived by a son, Timothy E. Stutzman, Dauphin; a daughter, Melissa J. Stutzman, Dauphin; a granddaughter, Adrienne R. Stutzman, Dauphin; a grandson, Nicolas T. Stutzman, Dauphin; two brothers, James Stutzman and his wife, Hilla, Millersburg, and Joel Stutzman and his wife, Carol, Neffsville; several nieces and nephews.
    Services will be held at noon Saturday at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with the Rev. Curtis Zemencik officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home. There will be no viewing.     She is survived by two sons, Lamar L. Stutzman and his wife, Elizabeth, Lebanon, and Gary L. Stutzman and his wife, Ahe, Spring, Texas; two daughters, Barbara A. Wetzel and her husband, Roger, Valley View, and Debra K. Stiely and her husband, John, Elizabethville; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Herring and Dolly Klouser, both of Hegins; nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, with the Rev. Duane Bardo officiating. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Interment will be made in Friedens Cemetery, Hegins.     For the past 20-plus years, Gary lived in Houston, working for several plastic manufacturing companies. His work took him to almost every continent. Although much of his travel was work-related, he took time to pursue his passion, photography.
    He is survived by his wife, Aha, and her daughter, Evy; a brother, Lamar, and his wife, Betsy; sisters, Barbara Wetzel and her husband, Roger, and Debra Stiely and her husband, John; two aunts, Myrtle Herring and Dolly Klouser; an uncle, Forrest Herb; nieces and nephews.
    Gary was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He will be sorely missed by everyone.

    Mrs Margaret Spohn Schwalm, 87, widow of the Rev H M Schwalm, passed away Monday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs Harve Pletcher, a mile and a half north of here. Funeral services will be held today Thursday with a service at the Pletcher home at 1:00 pm, followed by another at the Olive church. Burial in the adjoining cemetery.
    The deceased was born in St Joseph county, Ind, Nov 5, 1853, the daughter of Peter and Catherine Spohn.
    Her father died when she was two years old, and at the age of seven she was taken into the home of Mr and Mrs John Barkey. She lived there until her marriage to the Rev Mr Schwalm in 1875.
    They lived on a farm in Olive township, Elkhart county. The Rev Mr Schwalm was engaged in the ministry and law. Since his death 18 years ago, Mrs Schwalm had lived with her children. She was a member of the Baugo Church of the Brethren.
    She was the last of a family of nine children.
    Surviving are six children, Mrs Elmer Bowers of New Paris, Mrs Elmer Eby and Mrs H E Pletcher of this place, the Rev V F Schwalm of McPherson college, McPherson, Kansas, Mrs George W Phillips of Elkhart and Arthur Schwalm of this place, 25 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. A son, Samuel F Schwalm of Goshen, passed away Oct 20, and another, the Rev Harvey Schwalm passed away in 1922.

  • Newspaper obituary:
    Samuel Fremont Schwalm, 61, former Olive township trustee, passed away Sunday at his home, 925 South Main street, Goshen, after an illness of several years. His condition had been critical since July 1.
    Mr Schwalm was born August 29, 1879, in St Joseph county, the son of Rev H M and Margaret Spohn Schwalm. He had lived on farms in St Joseph and Elkhart counties until 1927 when he moved to Goshen.
    He was married to Edna Hoover on December 21, 1899. While he was living on a farm, 3 1/2 miles northeast of town, in this township, he served as township trustee from 1919 to 1927 and it was during his administration that the Wakarusa Community school was built. For the past 13 years Mr Schwalm was employed as a solicitor and collector for the Elkhart Truth. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren.
    Surviving are his widow, a daughter, Mrs Galen Whitehead of New Paris, three grandchildren, Dean, Wayne and Doris Whitehead; his mother, Mrs Margaret Schwalm, and the following brothers and sisters, Mrs Elmer Bowers of New Paris, Mrs George Phillips of Elkhart, Vernon Schwalm of McPherson, Kansas; Mrs Elmer Eby, Mrs Nora Pletcher and Arthur Schwalm of this place. His father and a brother, Harvey, preceded him in death.
    Funeral services were held Tuesday from the home at 1:30 pm and at 2:30 pm from the Olive church, five miles north of town. The Rev T E George of Goshen and the Rev. Harvey Bowers officiated.
