    Frances Isabel Herb, age 81, of 104 Gap Street, Valley View, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, surrounded by her loving family.
    She was born on Monday, January 19, 1931, in Valley View, a daughter of the late Harrison and Tillie (Schwalm) Stutzman Updegrave.
    She was a 1948 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School; where she was the class treasurer and the 1st May Queen.
    She was a seamstress in area garment factories prior to her retirement.
    She was a lifelong member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View.
    Frances enjoyed sewing and made beautiful clothing for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and enjoyed shopping for her grandchildren. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.
    She was preceded in death by three brothers Leroy Stutzman, Lloyd Stutzman, and Frank Stutzman; and by two sisters Lillian Reider and Lucille Geist.
    She is survived by her husband Forrest I Herb, to whom she was married for 61 years.
    She is also survived by two sons Thomas R Herb and his wife Lisa of Lewisberry and Jack S Herb and his wife Tina of Harrisburg; two daughters Diane L Romberger and her husband Harold of Valley View and Barbara A Herb of Millersburg; four grandsons Nicholas Herb, Daniel Romberger, Jared Wolfgang, and Bryson Herb; a granddaughter Alexa Romberger; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
    Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at 1:00 pm, with Rev. Duane Bardo officiating.
    A viewing will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesday at the church.
    Burial will be made in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Valley View.
    Memorial contributions can be made to St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 221, Valley View, PA 17983.
    Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.

    Lucille Marie Geist, 75, of 225 E. Main St., Hegins, passed away Tuesday at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
    Born in Valley View, July 23, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Harrison and Tillie Schwalm Updegrave.
    She was a 1952 graduate of the former Hegins Township High School and was a graduate of McCann School of Business, Pottsville.
    She and her husband owned and operated the former Valley Home Center. She had also been employed as a bookkeeper for the former Starr's Poultry and the former Starr's Hardware, both of Valley View.
    She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, where she was a member of the former Adult Fellowship Group, had been involved with initiating the Easter candy sales, and was a member of the church choir.
    She was preceded in death by three brothers, Leroy, Lloyd and Frank Stutzman; and a sister, Lillian Reider.
    Surviving are her husband, Donald F. Geist, to whom she was married 54 years; a son, William D. Geist and his wife, Robyn, Reading; a daughter, LuAnn M. Carpenter and her husband, Gary, Ephrata; a grandson, David G. Carpenter, Lewisberry; four granddaughters, Amy L. Lisk, Downington, Angela M. Geist, New Ringgold, Kristi L. Duffy, Blandon, and Mandy L. Bell, Lititz; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frances Herb, Valley View.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, with the Rev. Philip Sabas officiating, assisted by the Rev. Donald Morgan. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.
