    HERNDON -- Roy J. Shaffer, 72, of Herndon RD1 died at 2:05 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 1992, at Sunbury Community Hospital, shortly after his admission. He had been ill health for the past three years.
    Born May 19, 1920, in Jordan Township, Herndon RD1, he was a son of the late George W. and Sarah L. Troutman Shaffer. In 1942, he married the former Catherine M. Yerger in Urban.
    He was a carpenter, retiring in 1985 from Helwig Construction Co., Millersburg.
    Mr. Shaffer was educated in Jordan Township schools. He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater.
    He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Urban; and the American Association of Retired Persons.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Betty Wolfgang of Dalmatia RD1; two sons, Raymond R. of Hershey and Marlin L. of Herndon RD1; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, William F. Shaffer of Herndon RD1, George E. Shaffer of Paxinos RR and Eugene F. Shaffer of Millersburg; three sisters; Sara Latsha of Dornsife RD1, Margaret Baumert of Herndon RD1 and Anna Mae Mentzer of Port Charlotte, Fla.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Myrlie Grimm; and three brothers, John, Norman and Felix Shaffer.
    The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ by the Rev. George Heberling. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Urban.
    Visitors may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown RD1, and from noon until the time of the service Tuesday at the church.
    Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Paul's United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, Urban, Herndon RD1 17830.

    KLINGERSTOWN Lester D. Maurer, 73, of Klingerstown died at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at his home. He had been in failing health since 1995.
    He was born on Nov. 20, 1926, in Klingerstown, a son of the late Daniel and Katie (Kahler) Maurer. He was united in marriage to the former Marie M. Brosius on Dec. 31, 1949.
    He was educated in the Hegins Township School.
    Mr. Maurer was a retired truck driver and dockman, having last been employed by ABF Freight Systems Inc., Carlisle, for 11 years, retiring in 1989. He was previously employed by Eastern Express, Camp Hill, for 20 years.
    He was a member of Teamsters Local 776, Harrisburg, the Elk Trial Gun Club, Potter County, Herndon Lodge 702 of Free and Accepted Masons, the Fraternal Order of Police, Shamokin; and the Klingerstown Fire Company.
    He enjoyed hunting, farming and mowing the lawn.
    Mr. Maurer was a member of St. Michael's. Lutheran Church, Klingerstown.
    Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry L. and Janice of RR1 Hegins and Daniel J. and Angela of Elizabethville; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy L. and Gary Musselman of Bonita Springs, Fla; five grandchildren, Andy, Rebecca, Blake, Kaylene and Logan; one sister, Olive Erdman of Myerstown; and two brothers, Marlin and Clifford, both of RRI Klingerstown.
    He was preceded in death by one infant brother and one sister, Effie Schlegel.
    Visitors may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Klingerstown. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church by the Rev. Joel Petruschke of Klingerstown.
    Burial will be in the church cemetery.
    Contributions may be made to St. Michael's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Klingerstown, PA 17941, or Pinnacle Health Hospice, 301 One Norwegian Plaza, Pottsville, PA 17901.

    Marie M. Maurer, 89, of Klingerstown, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2021, at Heritage Mills, Tower City.
    Marie was born Feb. 18, 1932, in Lykens Township, a daughter of the late Lydia (Willier) and Jay Brosius.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester D. Maurer, who passed away March 7, 2000.
    Marie worked in the egg processing industry most of her life at Spread Eagle Farms, Quaker State Farms and Haas Farms.
    She enjoyed going to church, reading, traveling, mowing grass, completing word puzzles and assembling jigsaw puzzles.
    She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Mary and Timothy Maurer; sisters, Alma Stroup and Anna Hartman; stepsister, Phylliss Daniel.
    Marie is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry L. and Janice Maurer, of Hegins, Daniel J. and Angela Maurer, of Lykens; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy L. and Gary Mussleman, of Naples, Fla; five grandchildren, Andy (Beth) Maurer, Rebecca (Mark) Harries, Blake (Sarah) Maurer, Kaylene Maurer and Logan Maurer; three great-grandchildren, Ian and Maggie Harries and Teagan Maurer; one brother- and sister-in-law, William and Shirley Brosius, of Millersburg; nieces and nephews.
    Private services will be held at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Klingerstown, with the Rev. Jonathan Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. She was a member of Simeon United Lutheran Church, Gratz. She was also a member of the Gratz Historical Society. Anna enjoyed cooking and gardening. Her husband Thomas J Hartman passed away in 1992. She was also preceded in death by a sister Alma Stroup. She is survived by a daughter Mary C Hartman and her partner Laurie Nelson of Harrisburg, a brother William Brosius of Millersburg; a sister Marie Maurer of Klingerstown; a niece Sally Stroup of Alexandria, VA; a nephew Randy Stroup of Lykens; and several other nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held at Simeon United Lutheran Church, Gratz, on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Kathy Kuehl officiating.
