Elias Klinger

M, #6537, b. 23 March 1822, d. 30 January 1889
  • Last Edited: 20 Jul 2010
  • Elias Klinger was born on 23 March 1822.1,2
  • He was the son of Johann Philip Klinger and Catharina (?)
  • Elias Klinger was baptized on 5 May 1822, Zion (Klinger's) Church, Erdman, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, PA.1
  • He married Louisianna Troutman, daughter of Abraham Troutman and Elizabeth Regina Tschopp.
  • In 1850, Elias and his wife "Lucy" were living in Jackson Township, Northumberland County, PA, where Elias was a farmer. Their household included Emanuel (age 7), Amanda, (5), John, (1), Catherine (1 month), and Elias's father-in-law, Abraham Troutman (76).3
  • Elias Klinger married Elizabeth Bush.
  • At the time of the 1860 Census, Elias "Clinger," a miller, and his second wife Elizabeth were living in Mifflin Township (Post Office: Berrysburg), Dauphin County, PA. Their household included the following children: Emanuel (16), listed as a "Prentice" Miller; Amanda (14); John (12); Catharine (9); William (6); and Lousian (3).4
  • In 1870, Elias was a miller living in Uniontown [Pillow], Dauphin County, PA with his second wife Elizabeth. Their household included William H. (15), Louisa Anna (12), David (10), Martha E. (5), and Lydia (9 months).5
  • By 1880, Elias and Elizabeth were living in Uniontown (Pillow), Dauphin County, PA, where Elias was a miller, in a household that included 3 of their children: David, "Lucy," and Liddie.6
  • Elias Klinger died on 30 January 1889, at age 66.2
  • He was buried at Grandview Cemetery, Pillow, Dauphin County, PA.7
  • Mary Klinger, Klingers from the Odenwald, Hesse, Germany, p. 365, contains a rather confusing discussion of Elias's family. In describing burial locations in a cemetery south of Pillow [apparently the Grandview Cemetery], she writes:
"In the same cemetery is buried, on a different lot, Elias Klinger, d. 30-1-1889, age 66-10-7 and Elizabeth (wife, d. 17-8-1889, age 51-11-1); his second wife, being Elizabeth Bush. On his one side lies Lidia A. Chilton, nee Klinger, 1869-1931, and on the other side lies Israel (son of Elias, 1878-1879); J. Arthur 1880- & Mabel E. 1884-1957." The text goes on to list the children, apparently, of Elias and Elizabeth Bush as follows: "Emanuel of Georgetown [Dalmatia]; David of Washington, D.C; Art of Washington, D.C; Lucia m. ____ Seaman of Uniontown [Pillow]; Mrs. John Bingman."2
