    Samuel M. Brown, 96, of Market Street, Gratz, died Saturday at home.
    Born Sept. 12, 1091 in Hebe, he was a son of the late William F. and Louisa N. Bonner Brown. He was educated in Klingerstown area schools.
    He was a retired farmer and had last been employed by the former Novelty Works, Herndon.
    He was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Leck Kill, and Mahantongo Fire Company, Pitman and a former member of Klingerstown Fire Company and Gratz Area Senior Citizens.
    His first wife, the former Iva I. Schreffler, died Nov. 21, 1973; his second wife, the former Vera M. Klinger Martz, died Aug. 1, 1996; a daughter, Irene M. Brown, died May 26, 1991; and a stepson, Harlan Martz, died Aug. 17, 1985.
    Surviving are a sister, Beulah Kissinger, Akron; two stepdaughters, Mae Mattern, Valley View, and Blanche Harner, Sacramento; a stepson, Carl G. Martz, RR1 Lykens; 12 stepgrandchildren; 29 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-granddaughters.
    Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ United Church of Christ. The Rev. Mark Rothermel will officiate. Interment will be in Jacob's Cemetery, RR1 Pitman. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RR1 Klingerstown, is in charge of arrangements.

    — KLINGERSTOWN — Ivan J. Klinger, 89, of Klingerstown, left his earthly residence to be at home with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at the Schuylkill Medical Center, East Norwegian Street.
    He was born May 30, 1921, in Spring Glen, the son of the late Eston Isaiah and Esther Miralda Mae (Radel) Klinger. He was married to the former Doris E. Stuck, who preceded in death on July 17, 1993.
    Ivan served with the Army in the Philippines during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
    He was employed as a tire capper for Klinger and Stehr Inc., enjoyed working on his farm and also worked as a mechanic and a blacksmith.
    He was a member of Zion Lutheran (Klinger’s) Church, Erdman, where he served as an usher, on the church council and cemetery committee.
    Ivan enjoyed riding bicycle and delivered The Daily Item on his bike for many years. He also enjoyed flying kites and going to the beach. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling, roller skating an going to drive-in movies, and he looked forward to sled riding with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed listening to shortwave radio and was known to improvise antennas for better reception.
    He is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Barbara and James Hofer, of Clearwater, Fla., Ruth and Gary Kembel, of Klingerstown, Mary Jane Ebright, of Lewisburg, and Roxie and Tim Sheesley, of Northumberland; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Ivan Williard.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Erma Williard, of Klingerstown.
    A closed casket viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran (Klinger’s) Church, Erdman, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Jan Mills officiating.
    Burial will be in Zion Lutheran (Klinger’s) Church Cemetery, Erdman.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran (Klinger’s) Church, P.O. Box 71, Klingerstown, PA 17941, or to the donor’s favorite charity.2
