  • At the time of the 1870 Census, Samuel and wife "Margaret" (age 40) were living in Lower Augusta Township, Northumberland County, where he was a farmer. Their household included 9 children: Elias (20); Emanuel S. (18); Amelia (16); Gabriel (14); Catherine (12); Mary L. (8); Isabella (6); John G. (4); and William (2).6
  • In 1880, Samuel was a widowed farmer in living in Lower Augusta Township. His household included, in addition to Samuel: Gabriel (23), farm labor; Catharine (21), keeping house; Isabella (16); John G. (13); and Peter L. (9).7
