    HERNDON - Clyde Allen Carl, 81, Herndon RD, died at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Sunbury Community Hospital where he had been a patient since Sept. 24. He had been hospitalized numerous times in the past two years.
    Born at Herndon RD on Feb 22, 1890, he was the son of the late Henry A. and Rebecca Kobel Carl.
    At one time, Mr. Carl was engaged in digging coal from the Susquehanna River, and then went into the masonry business from which he retired several years ago.
    He is survived by his widow, the former Carrie M. Rothermel; the following children, one daughter, Mrs; Raymond Ferree, and four sons, Henry J., Robert A; Daniel P. and Charles W., all of Herndon RD; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren: one brother, James Carl of Herndon RD, and one sister, Mary Lenker, also of Herndon RD.
    Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Rothermel S Funeral Home, Herndon, with the Rev. Richard Harder officiating.
    Interment will follow in Urban Cemetery.
    Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday evening.

    Daniel P. Carl, 78, of Herndon, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
    He was born Aug. 7, 1931, in Herndon, a son of the late Clyde and Carrie (Rothermel) Carl. He was the husband of Betty Carl, who survives.
    Daniel served in the Army during the Korean War.
    He was employed as a quarry worker at Meckley's Limestone, Herndon, and was a brick layer for many years before.
    Daniel regularly attended Grace Community Church in RR Herndon and was a member of Alvin E. Long American Legion Post 504, Herndon, and the Herndon Fire Company and a former member of the Bricklayer and Allied Craftsmen, Shamokin.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Ernie Schreffler, of Dalmatia; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Barbara Carl, of Herndon; one brother, Henrery Carl, of Herndon; one grandson, Jeremiah Schreffler; and one great-grandson, Nolan Schreffler.
    He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Teri Lee Carl; one sister, Jean Ferree; and two brothers, Charles and Robert Carl.
    There will be a visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Community Church, Herndon, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Gerald Evens officiating.
    Interment will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
    Funeral arrangements are by the James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow.

    Betty was a Homemaker, and a member of the Herndon Senior Action Center. She enjoyed the activities at Georgetown Heights, crocheted afghans for the Herndon Center and slippers for her neighbors at Georgetown Heights too.
    Betty is survived by her son, Terry and wife Barbara Carl of Herndon; daughter, Julie and husband Ernie Schreffler of Dalmatia; sister, Diane Leitzel; grandson, Jeremiah and wife Marie Schreffler; great-grandchildren, Nolan, Courtlynn, Lexi and Caisynn.
    She was preceded in death by husband, Daniel P. Carl, sister, Patsy Mattern, sister, Faye Harris, brother, Dennis Leitzel, granddaughter, Teri Lee Carl.
    Private services will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Sunbury.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Liberated Living, 734 Hereford Rd, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.2

    HERNDON -- Jean A. Ferree, 72, of RR2 Herndon all of her life, died at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at her home. She had been in ill health for seven months.
    She was born Nov. 11, 1926, in Herndon, the daughter of the late Clyde Allen and Carrie (Rothermel) Carl. On April 1, 1956, she was married in Herndon to Raymond M. Ferree by the Rev. Jacob Singer.
    She attended Herndon schools. Mrs. Ferree was employed by Creative Playthings, Herndon, for 30 years before retiring in 1985.
    She was a member of the Herndon Senior Action Center.
    Mrs. Ferree was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Urban.
    Surviving, in addition to her husband, are one son, Bernard Madden of Newport; two daughters and sons-in-law, Annette and Jack Trometter of Herndon and Jill and Steven Bigger of Southern Pines, N.C; six grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and three brothers, Henry, Daniel and Charles Carl, all of Herndon.
    She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert A. Carl Sr.
    There will be no viewing. A graveside funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Urban, by the Rev. George P. Heberling.

    He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing.

    He was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Ferree, and one brother, Robert A. Carl Sr.
    There will be no viewing. A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Urban, by the Rev. George P. Heberling.
