ELIZABETHVILLE - James Monroe Schade, Jr., aged 82, died peacefully, surrounded by family, at Carolyn's Hospice House in Harrisburg, PA, on Aug. 29, 2026.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carolyn (née Rummel); his son, James Edward, and daughter-in-law, Leah (née Jacobs); his grandchildren, Rachel Hannah and Benjamin Rummel; his brother and sister-in-law, Don Belton and Elaine Schade; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy (née Rummel) and Warren Daniel; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was the son of the late James Monroe Schade, Sr. and Corrine Olive Senora (Hoke), and the son-in-law of the late Paul and Mildred Rummel.
He was born in Danville and raised in Pillow, Pa., and graduated from Upper Dauphin High School in 1962, where he was a member of the football team and marching band. A longtime resident of Dillsburg, PA, he also played drums and sang with the Hal Herman Music Unlimited band in the 1970s. He introduced his son to the drums at an early age and was the strongest supporter of his musical career. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and seeing his legacy of music continue with them as they each became musicians as well.
Jim was known for his beautiful bass voice and enjoyed singing in the choirs of all the churches he attended: Zion Lutheran in Pillow, St. Paul's Lutheran in Dillsburg, and First Evangelical Lutheran in Carlisle.
