    Maude Deitrich Murphy,88, a former longtime resident of Aldan, died on April 4, 2014 at Vitas Hospice at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby.
    Maude was a resident of Aldan for 63 years before becoming a resident of St. Francis Country House in Darby 5 years ago.
    Born in Good Spring, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Deitrich. Maude was a graduate of Porter Tower High School in Tower City, Pa., Class of 1942 where she was Class Salutatorian. She then attended business school in Harrisburg, Pa. where she met her husband, James, to whom she was married for 66 years until his death in 2012.
    Maude enjoyed reading, letter writing, and crossword puzzles. Most of all, she will be remembered as a women who was devoted to her home and family.
    SURVIVORS: Her daughters, Maureen Craskey and Patricia Quinn; her sons, James E. Murphy, Jr. and Philip Murphy; her sister, Carolyn Paul; her 10 Grandchildren; and her 8 great-grandchildren.
    FUNERAL MASS: Will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 9 th, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 500 Woodlawn Avenue, in Collingdale.
    VISITATION: Will be on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Church.
    BURIAL: Will be in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Marple Township.

    James Emmitt Murphy, 87
    Affectionately known as "Murph" to his friends James Emmitt Murphy, 87, died on February 17, 2012 at St. Francis Country House in Darby. Jim was a long time resident of Aldan before moving to St. Francis Country House. Born and raised in Clifton Heights, he was the son of the late Walter and Theresa Murphy. He was employed as a courier with the Purolator Co. for many years until his retirement. In his younger days, Jim played trumpet and drums in the Archer Upler Marching Band in Upper Darby. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. Among his hobbies, Jim loved to fish and was an avid bird watcher, always maintaining his feeders in his backyard. He also enjoyed singing and dancing and would sing all the old time hymns and Irish tunes. He was devoted to his wife and his family. Survivors: His wife of 66 years Maude Murphy; his daughters Maureen Craskey and Patricia Quinn; his sons James E. Murphy Jr. and Philip Murphy; his 10 grandchildren; his 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 23rd, at 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 500 Woodlawn Avenue, in Collingdale. Visitation Thursday 10 to 11 AM at the church. Burial Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Marple Twp. In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Jim's memory to The Make-A-Wish Foundation, One Valley Square, Suite 133, 512 Township Line Road, Blue Bell, PA 19422 would be appreciated. He survives with three daughters, Mrs. William (Helen) Lade of SL Petersburg, Fla; Mrs. James ( Mary ) Skalla of Berrien Springs and Mrs. Fred (Nancy) Worley of El Toro, Calif; two sons, Samuel W. Jr. of Niles and John of Berrien Springs; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Johnson of St. Petersburg, and three brothers, Harry Deitrich of Edwardsburg and Arthur and Ray Deitrich, both of Berrien Springs.

    BERRIEN SPRINGS -- Samuel W. Burge, 79, of Berrien Springs, died Wednesday at Berrien General Hospital, Berrien Center, following a lengthy illness.
    Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Pifer-Smith Funeral Home, Niles, where friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday at the Pifer-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Long Lake Cemetery, Berrien Springs.
    Mr. Burge was born Aug. 12, 1905, in Niles. He had lived in Berrien County his entire life. He was formerly employed as an ice man for the City Ice and Fuel in Niles, and was also a farmer.
    Survivors include: three-daughters Mary Skalla of Benton Harbor, Nancy Worley of Glendale, Ariz., and Helen Lade of St. Petersburg, Fla; two sons John of Berrien Springs and Samuel Jr. of Niles; a sister, Mrs. Alma McBride of Florida; a brother, Elmer "Bud" Burge of Los Angeles, Calif; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Dorothy Deitrich, in May of 1980.
