  • TURBOTVILLE — Elizabeth R. "Betty" Miller, 82, of Comly Road, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
    Born Jan. 29, 1925, in Spring Mills, Centre County, she was a daughter of the late John C. and Iva (Gessner) Robinson. On March 22, 1947, she married Earle F. Miller, and they celebrated 38 years of marriage before his death May 4, 1985.
    A 1942 graduate of Spring Mills High School, Betty graduated from Geisinger Medical Center School of Nursing in 1946.
    Betty worked as a Navy Cadet Nurse and as a pediatric nurse at Geisinger, Danville.
    She enjoyed gardening, genealogy and traveling with her husband.
    She was a member of the North Central Pennsylvania Conservancy and the Northumberland County Historical Society and was a charter member of the Warrior Run Historical Society. She was the former chairman of the historic Warrior Run Church for many years.
    Betty received a proclamation from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission for 33 years of service to the Warrior Run Fort Freeland Heritage Society for giving interpretive tours to visitors and thousands of schoolchildren, answering genealogy inquiries and conducting weddings at the Warrior Run Church.
    Surviving Betty are her care-giver, Gail (Pfleegor) Moser and her family of rural Turbotville; one brother, John C. Robinson of Wayne, Pa; and many nieces and nephews.
    Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were three half-sisters, Barbara and Rebecca Schmitt and Dorothea Joyce.
    Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville. The funeral will be follow at 11 in the funeral home with the Rev. Allen Acor officiating.
    Burial will follow in the "old section" of Turbotville Cemetery.

    Richard (Dick) Winfield Gessner founder of Massillon Cable TV, Inc., died at his home on July 18, 2018. Born June 30, 1928, Dick was a 1950 graduate of Bucknell University and a Massillon resident and business owner for more than 50 years. He and Susan (his wife of 67 years) founded Massillon Cable TV (now MCTV) in 1965. Prior to cable TV, Dick worked in radio and television in Philadelphia and New York, including a brief stint as a page at NBC. His first cable TV experience was obtaining franchises in upstate New York. Recognized as a Cable Pioneer, Dick was one of the founders of the Ohio Cable Television Association and served as Chairman of the Community Antenna Television Association. MCTV continues to operate as a family business, now managed by second- and third-generation family members.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. George and Florence Gessner and his brother, William Gessner. He is survived by Susan; his brother, James Gessner; his sons, Richard (Hyeweon-Lee) Gessner, Jr. and Robert (Nancy) Gessner, and his daughter, Elizabeth (Larry) McAllister; granddaughters, Suzanne (Troy) Bradshaw, Katherine (Michael) Duplay and Anne McAllister; and great-grandchildren, Martha Bradshaw, Ruth Bradshaw and John Bradshaw.
    A memorial service will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ (101 Tremont Ave SE, Massillon) at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2018. The family will greet visitors from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate memorial contributions to St. John's UCC or the Massillon Museum Capital Campaign (121 Lincoln Way E, Massillon, OH 44646).     Francis W. Scheib, 84, of Pillow, died Saturday at Sunbury Community Hospital. He was a retired coal miner and farmer and was a member of Simon's United Church of Christ, Gratz.
    Surviving are his wife, the former Salome Welker; three sons, Carlos of Pillow; Lester, Hegins, RD2 and Nevin, Elizabethville; a daughter, Mrs. Raymond Brosious of Millersburg; 9 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren.
