    She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Valley View.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard S. Schwalm, in 1944; a granddaughter, Dorris ?Kimmel; five brothers, Allen, George, Ralph, Melvin and Guy; five sisters, Nora, Gertie, Grace, Ruth and Rena.
    Surviving are a son, Clair M. Schwalm, Catawissa; two daughters, Veri I. Kimmel, Valley View, and Dora Mae Wagner, Hegins; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday in St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Wagner officiating. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Interment will be in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Valley View.   • Vera Irene Schwalm married Mark Allen Kimmel, son of Emerson Kimmel and Carrie Hinkel, on 18 July 1942, Gettysburg, Adams County, PA.1,4
  • Vera was the owner of a farm that has been in the Schwalm family since 1851. The farm was awarded a designation as a Pennsylvania Century Farm. The farm was purchased in 1851 by Frederick and Sarah Schwalm, from whom it latter passed to Samuel Schwalm, his son Ellsworth Schwalm, Vera's grandfather, Guerney Schwalm (Vera's uncle), and Millard Schwalm (Vera's father), before it was acquired by Vera and her husband Mark Kimmel in 1960.5

    She was a 1939 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School.
    Vera was a seamstress in area garment factories prior to her retirement.
    She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View.
    Vera loved gardening, sewing, quilting, making blankets and bags for those in need, and crocheting doilies, plus spending time with family, friends and those who cared for her.
    Her husband Mark A Kimmel, passed away in 1977. She was also preceded in death by her parents; by an infant daughter Doris Kimmel; daughter Peggy J. Miller; and by a brother, Clair Schwalm.
    She is survived by a son, Glenn M Kimmel and his wife Linda of Carlisle; a daughter, Carol A Shuey and her husband Leroy of Hegins; a son in law, Larry R Miller and his wife Patricia of Valley View; a sister, Dora Mae Wagner of Hegins; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Suzanne Elliott, Rev. Duane Bardo, and Rev. David Wagner officiating.
    A viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday at the church.
    Burial will be made in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Valley View.

    She was a 1973 graduate of Tri-Valley High School and a graduate of the former Polyclinic School of Radiology, Harrisburg.
    She had worked for seven years as an X-ray technician at the former Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville. She and her husband own and operate Miller's Hardware, Valley View.
    She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, where she was a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Johannes Schwalm Historical Association.
    Peggy enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family.
    In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Kimmel.
    Peggy is survived by her husband, Larry R. Miller, to whom she was married for 38 years; two daughters, Jennifer J. Kerstetter and her husband, Kyle, Spring Glen, and Kelly M. Carter and her husband, Charles Jr., Valley View; two granddaughters, Angela M. Carter, Valley View, and Hailey P. Kerstetter, Spring Glen; brother, Glenn M. Kimmel, Middlesex; sister, Carol A. Shuey, Hegins; a niece and three nephews.

    Clair M. Schwalm, 85, a resident of Levi Lane, Catawissa, since 1996, died Monday at home surrounded by family.
    Clair was born in Valley View on Feb. 11, 1926, a son of the late Millard and Irene Bixler Schwalm. Throughout his earlier years, he attended the Valley View area schools.
    Following his education, he served with the Navy during World War II.
    During his working career, he was owner and operator of Schwalm's Cafe, Valley View, for more than ten years. He was also employed as a coal miner for more than 40 years and a truck driver for more than 12 years.
    He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending his time in the outdoors. He was also a very dedicated fan of NASCAR racing.
    He was a member of the Underground Rescue EMT, American Legion and was a Masonic member.
    From 1988 to 1996, he spent his time traveling through all the states, except Alaska, in his RV.
    He was preceded in death by his first two wives, Ruth Coleman Schwalm, in 1966, and Vilma Troutman Schwalm, in 1987.
    Surviving are his beloved wife of 23 years, Joan Mace McCurley; five children, Claire Nicksic and husband, James, Lititz, Deborah Schwartz and her husband, William, Hegins, Steve Schwalm, Lavelle, Kevin Schwalm and his wife, Shirley, Pitman, and Jodi Spotts and her husband, James, Pottsville; three stepchildren, John McCurley, Wilkes-Barre, Cheryl Yoder and her husband, Phil, Nescopeck, and Lori Clemens and her husband, Greg, Berwick; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Vera Kimmel, Valley View, and Dora Mae Wagner and her husband, William, Hegins.
    Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no public services at this time. Graveside services will be held in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
