    Word has been received here of the death of a former local resident, William Davis, of Philadelphia, whose death occurred Wednesday evening.
    Mr. Davis was a son of the late Martin and Margaret (nee Hurley) Davis, of this city, and left here about 40 years ago. He was a former employe of the Reading Company and was retired in July.
    Mr. Davis suffered a stroke in Pottsville, October 25, when he was attending the funeral of a brother, Edward He never rallied. Mr. Davis was also a brother of the late Mrs. Julia Dunkle, of Pottsville, and was the last member of his family.
    To survive besides his wife, the former Winnie Seltzer, of Tremont there are these nieces and nephews: Martin Dunkl, Mrs. George Shaw, Mrs Jack Joyce. Mrs. Marie Mrs. Wendel Meadows, Pottsville; Paul Davis, Schuylkill Haven Pike, and Mrs. Vincent Haley, of Philadelphia.
    The funeral will be held from his home in Philadelphia, Saturday and interment will be made in Trappe, interment will be made in Trappe, Pa.

    hirley Jane Gray passed away on August 9, 2021. She was 80.
    Shirley was born on July 24, 1941, to the late Earl and Elsie Eckman. She was a life-long resident of King of Prussia, prior to moving to Kent Island, MD, later in life. Shirley enjoyed a fun childhood which included living on Norview Farm in King of Prussia, riding her horse, Rusty, and taking care of their bull, Whitey. Shirley graduated from Upper Merion High School in 1959 and later from West Chester State College. She worked in her home-town as a waitress, with many locals remembering her from her many years at Michaels Italian Restaurant.
    Shirley absolutely loved being with family. Her biggest joy was spending time with her grandkids attending their many events and taking them to Valley Forge Park to climb on the trees and enjoy being outside together. She always had cold chocolate milk waiting for them in her refrigerator when they came to visit. She was also active in the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
    Shirley is survived by her two sons, Jim Gray (Nancy) of King of Prussia, PA, and Dean Gray (Kim) of Chester, MD; five grandchildren, Danielle Gray, Matthew Gray (Amanda), Lauren Gray, Andrew Gray, and Spencer Gray; and one great-granddaughter, Sophia Rose Gray.
    A Memorial Gathering will be held from 10am to 11am on Friday, August 13, at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Rd. in Chester, MD. A service will follow at 11am. Burial is private.4

    SHAMOKIN - Patricia A. Straub, 85, of 518 Bear Valley Ave, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2021, at Manor Care in Sunbury.
    She was born in Shamokin, March 18, 1936, a daughter of the late Malcom and Katherin (Bidding) Crist.
    She attended Coal Township schools.
    In November 1952, in the Lutheran Church in Shamokin, she married Alen Straub Sr., who survives.
    She worked at Amity House restaurant and Country House restaurant as a cook.
    She was a member of Trevorton United Methodist Church.
    In addition to her husband, Patricia is survived by four sons, David Straub, of Shamokin, Alen Straub Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Shamokin, Michael Straub, of Trevorton, and Daniel Straub and his wife, Kim, of Shamokin; two daughters, Penny Kaskie and her husband, James, of Shamokin, and Kathy Giedash and her husband, Richard, of Shamokin; many grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy Crist; a sister-in-law, Doreen Heim and her husband, Jack; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
    In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Hornburger and her husband, Brian; two sisters, Betty Moyer and her husband, Richard, and Jean McDunna and her husband, Bill; and two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Feese and her husband, Donald, and Doris Stevens and her husband, Bill.
    STRAUB - Patricia A. Straub, 85, of 518 Bear Valley Ave., Shamokin. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Trevorton United Methodist Church, 547 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, with Pastor Beverly Petrovich officiating. Burial will follow the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Coal Township. Arrangements are being cared for by Farrow-C.J.     Jacque Dee Artz, 1 5, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Artz, Stoyer Hills, Sch. Haven RD2, a 1 0th grade student at Blue Mt. High School, died Sunday at 1:40 a.m. in the Pottsville Hospital of gunshot wounds of the head.
    The girl was wounded in the right temple at her home Saturday night. It is reported that Miss Artz was with her sister, Connie, 1 2, and Patricia Frank, 14, Pottsville RD1.
    The girl's parents were not at home when the shooting occurred shortly before 11 p.m. She was taken to the Pottsville Hospital in the Sch. Haven Lions community ambulance by Earl Dreher and John Roeder. X-rays showed that the soft-nosed bullet fired from a .22 revolver split in two, with one part remaining in the skull and the other penetrating the brain. She died at 1:40 a.m.
    Miss Artz was born in Pottsville, daughter of Ernest R. and Barbara G. Walls Artz. The family lived in Stoyer Hills the past eight years.
    She was a member of the Art Club and chorus at Blue Mt. The Artz family are members of Christ Evangelical Congregational Church, Pottsville.
    Surviving in addition to her parents, are a sister, Connie at home; her maternal grandparents, Raymond Walls. Waynoka, Okla. and Mrs. Eula Van Arsdell. Victorville, maternal great-grandfather, Dennis Walls, Waynoka; paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Hannah Kimmel Artz, Sch. Haven RD2.
    Funeral services were held yesterday morning from the Geschwindt Funeral Home, Sch. Haven. The Rev. E. W. Boyer officiated with burial in Schuylkill Memorial Park.
