  • Violet Klinger is also referred to as Viah and Violette in some sources.1,2
  • She was born on 9 March 1847.3,4
  • She was the daughter of Jacob S. Klinger and Louisa Alspach.
  • Violet Klinger was baptized on 25 May 1847, Zion (Klinger's) Church, Erdman, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, PA.5
  • She married Josiah D. Saltzer, son of J. Gabriel Saltzer and Miranda Marianna Osman.6,7
  • In 1870, Viollete and Josiah were living in the area around Sacramento, Hubley Township, Schuylkill County, PA, where Josiah was a laborer. They had 2 children.1
  • In 1880, Violette and Josiah were living in Tower City, Porter Township, Schuylkill County, PA, where Josiah was a shoe and boot maker. Their household included 6 children. None of those six children were among the 8 Saltzer infants buried at Zion (Klinger's) Church Cemetery in Erdman, Dauphin County, PA.8
  • Seven children with the surname Saltzer, all of whom died young, buried in the Klinger's Church Cemetery, are believed to be children of Josiah and Violet (Klinger) Saltzer. In 1870, Josiah and Violet were living in Hubley Township, Schuylkill County (Post office: Sacramento), but in 1880 they were living in Tower City, Porter Township, Schuylkill County. Given their burial at Klinger's Church, it is likely that these 7 children were all born and died before 1880.9,10,11
  • In 1900, the widowed Violet Saltzer was head of a household in Minersville, Schuylkill County, PA, that included 7 children. The Census indicates that she had given birth to 18 children, 10 of whom were then living. Ten children were also alive when Violet died in 1907. Her household included 7 of those children: William, "Orson" [Oscar?], Melvina, Claude, Charles, Katie, and Edwin. Her obituary mentions a son "Conrad," but a son of that name has not been identified.12,13
