    In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Dean N. Bender, 2008; three brothers, Terry, Kerry and Lewis Leitzel.
    Surviving are her son, Dean L. Bender and his wife Susan; two grandchildren, Leah Brew and Mitchel Bender; two great grandsons, Brandon and Kyle Brew all of Tower City; two brothers, Hilbert "Sonny" Leitzel, Florida and John Leitzel, Lykens. Nieces and nephews.
    Committal services were held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Rev. Edward Gobrecht. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc. Tower City, in charge or arrangements.3

    SHAMOKIN -- Raymond R. O. "Dutch" Shade, 80, of 226 S. Sixth St., died Friday in the Shamokin State General Hospital.
    Born in Shamokin Aug. 10, 1907, he was the son of the late Oscar M. and Phrana E. (Shaffer) Shade. He was married to the former Kathryn C. "Kitty" Parker, who died in 1987.
    Mr. Shade was co-owner and founder of Shades in Shamokin. He was a lifetime resident of Shamokin. He was also a well-known local musician.
    He was a life member of Grace Lutheran Church, Shamokin, where he was a member of the council and where he had also served as a Boy Scout Leader. He was a member of Masonic Lodge F&AM; Temple Club; and a founding parent of the Shamokin Area Band & Orchestra Boosters.
    He is survived by a son, David of Shamokin; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Lura Johns of Sunbury and Mrs. Ella Wilson of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by a sister.
    The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Grace Lutheran Church, Shamokin, by the Rev. Gerhard Roggenkamp. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Coal Township.
    Visitors may call at the Farrow Funeral Home, Shamokin, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

    Mrs. Wilson served on the board of directors for the American Cancer Society. She was the first president of the Reorganized Women of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, served as chairman of the Sunday United Service Organization during World War H, and served on the social ministry committee.
    She was also a past member of the Lancaster Association for the Blind. Born in Shamokin, she was the daughter of the late Oscar M. and Frana Shaeffer Shade.
    She was married to the late Everett M. Wilson.
    Surviving are three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

    SHAMOKIN -- Chester Arthur Johns, 74, of 83 East Sunbury Street, died Monday morning at 10:45 in Shamokin State General Hospital where he had been a patient since being stricken acutely ill Sunday morning. He had been in ill health several years.
    Born in Coal Township, October 31, 1896. Mr. Johns was the son of the late George and Flora ( Hayes) Johns. He was a lifelong resident of the area.
    Mr. Johns served as superintendent of the Stevens Collieries at Shamokin and Trevorton. He was a foreman for a large construction company in Cleveland, Ohio, from 1919 to 1922, and was in charge of construction of Gordon Square store, office and theatre complex in that city. He constructed some of the original buildings in Sunnyside before working for the Stevens Company. Following the destruction of the breaker at Trevorton by fire, he w as in charge of reconstruction. He retired in 1961.
    Mr. Johns was married Christmas Day, 1919, in Shamokin to the former Lura May Shade. He attended Coal Township schools, and was a 1912 graduate of Coal Township High School.
    The deceased was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Shamokin Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, Chapter and Knights Templar; Veterans of Foreign Wars and Union Fire Company.
    Mr. Johns served with the United States Army in France during World War I. He was attached to the 148th Aero Squadron and American Expeditionary Forces.
    Survivors include the widow, two daughters, Miss Frana F. Johns, at home, and Lois, wife of Dr. James Keiter, Palmyra; one son, Arthur Chester Johns, Lancaster; six grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters; John Johns. Trevorton; Mrs. Grace Ludwig, Reading; Mrs. Charles (May) Maurer, Holmes, and Mrs. Corrine Myrtle Bramlet, Tampa, Fla.

He was a staff engineer at the General Cigar Co. of Lancaster, retiring after 25 years in 1991. A professional engineer, he was also a member of ASME. A veteran of WWII, he served as Corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps., 32nd Air Engineering Squadron stationed in Alaska. He was a crew chief on a B-17. Arthur was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church and enjoyed woodworking and the outdoors.
    Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Dr. Kenneth A. Johns, companion of Julie Luft of Tlicson, AZ and Thomas A. Johns, husband of Deborah Murphey Johns of Kingwood, TX; a granddaughter, Laura C Johns, of King-wood, TX and a sister. Inis Keiter, wife of Dr. James Keiter of Palmyra. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frana Johns.
    Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial from St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd, Lancaster on Tliesday at 11AM.     Geraldine B. (Kulbacki) Johns, (Gerry), 92, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on 12/22/2017. She lived the last two years in Kingwood, TX near her son Thomas.
    The Funeral Mass will be held in the spring at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
    Gerry was born in Shamokin, PA on February 22, 1925. She graduated from Coal Township High School in 1943.
    Gerry was married to Arthur C. Johns on February 16, 1952; they were married 53 years.
    Gerry worked as an administrative assistant. She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
    Gerry’s main passion was her relatives and friends. She and husband Art supported the education and careers Geraldine B. (Kulbacki) Johns of their sons. She was a proli?c note-writer and enjoyed talking with her friends and relatives. Her favorite song was “You Are My Sunshine.”
    Gerry is survived by Kenneth A. Johns and partner Julie A. Luft, of Tucson, AZ, Thomas A. Johns, his wife Deborah M. Johns and their child Laura C. Johns, of Kingwood, TX.
    Gerry is preceded in death by her husband Arthur C. Johns, father Stanley Kulbacki, mother Tessie (Gryskiewucz) Kulbacki, brother Bernard B. Kulbacki, and sisters Helen Povish and Teresa A. Zupicich.
