    Titus A. Miller Jr., 73, of 44 Avenue E., Schuylkill Haven, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 1991 in the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville. He was the husband of Margaret Shuey Miller.
    Born in Lebanon to the late Titus and Minnie Henning Miller, he had been plant manager of Alpha Mill Corp., Schuylkill Haven, from 1947 to 1987, when he retired. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven, and the Schuylkill Haven American Legion and VFW posts. He was past president of the Schuylkill Haven Rotary Club.
    Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons Titus A. Miller III, West Lawn, and James Miller, Harrisonburg, Va; four granddaughters; and a sister, Miriam, wife of Herbert Roush, Lebanon.

    Born in Lebanon to the late Archibald and Viola Shuey, she retired as an administrative assistant at the Keystoker Manufacturing Co., Schuylkill Haven. She was a member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven, the Business and Professional Womens Club and Womans Club of Schuylkill Haven, Hidden Valley Gold League and Plaza Bowling League of Pottsville. She was a master bridge player.
    Surviving are sons Titus A. III, West Lawn, and James D., Lutherville, Md; four granddaughters; two greatgrandchildren; and sisters Mary Jane Hicks, Lebanon, and Helen Brensinger, Cleona.

    SHAMOKIN -- Mrs. Kathryn "Kitty" Shade, 76, of 226 S. Sixth St., died Wednesday in Mountain View Manor, Trevorton Road, where she had lived four years. She had been ill seven years.
    Born in High Bridge, N.J., Jan. 30, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Clara (Crouthamel) Parker. She married Raymond R.O. Shade in 1932.
    Mrs. Shade was the founder and co-owner of Shade's, a custom drapery and curtain retail business in Shamokin. She was a 1928 graduate of Mount Carmel High School.
    She had lived in Shamokin since 1932. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shamokin. She was a teacher for 30 years of the Kitty Shade Sunday School Class.
    She was a member of the Shamokin YWCA and was active in the promotion of its activities.
    In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, David of Shamokin; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Stahler of Tamaqua and Mrs. Alma Gadomski of Mount Carmel. She was preceded in death by a sister.
    The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, Shamokin, by the Rev. Dr. Gerhard Roggenkamp. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Trevorton Road.
    There will be no hours of calling.
    Donations may be made to the YWCA or the memorial fund of Grace Lutheran Church, both of Shamokin.
    Funeral arrangements were made by the Farrow Funeral Home, Shamokin.

    DANVILLE — David O. Shade, 78, of 91 Highview Drive, Coal Township, passed away at 8:16 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Geisinger Medical Center.
    Born April 29, 1933, he was a son of the late Raymond and Kathryn Parker Shade, of Shamokin.
    He graduated from Shamokin High School with the Class of 1951.
    He was drafted into the U.S. Army for duty during the Korean conflict in 1953. He served with the 440th Airborne Battalion band, which was the post band at Fort Bragg, N.C.
    Upon completion of his military duties, he entered Bucknell University, graduating in 1959 with a degree in commerce and finance.
    He earned his master's degree in retailing from the University of Pittsburgh in 1960, and began his career with the J.C. Penney Company of New York City, where he was an assistant buyer and an inventory control specialist.
    He later worked for Creative Playthings in New Jersey, where he was inventory control manager and buyer.
    He returned to Shamokin in 1971 to assume ownership of Shade's, a local business started by his parents. He operated the business until it closed. He retired in 2005.
    He married the former Judith K. Hanson, who he met when they were both studying at Bucknell University. They were married at the Second Baptist Church of Germantown, Aug. 2, 1958. The wedding was conducted by Hanson's father, the Rev. Dr. Joseph John Hanson and the Rev. Howard Hartzell.
    Wherever he lived, he was active in his church and the community. In Shamokin, he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he served as congregational president, vice president and treasurer. He also served on the church council as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Cardinal Choir.
    When his children were in school, he was a member of the Shamokin Area band and orchestra boosters and served as bass/baritone singer with the Choraliers.
    He also served on the board of directors for the John H. Vastine Foundation and the Anthracite Area United Way.
    After retirement, he volunteered with the CSIU as a English tutor for area students.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mark Hanson Shade, of Harrisburg, and Jon Parker Shade and his wife, Kristen, of Vernon, N.J; a daughter, Susan Shade-Kaplan and her husband, Gideon, of San Francisco, Calif; grandchildren, Olivia, Parker, Nolan and Ella Shade; a daughter-in-law, Julie Shade; a sister-in-law, Carole Gonzoga and her daughter, Renee, of Drexel Hill; and a nephew, Dr. Gian Gonzoga and his wife, Heather Setrakian, of Santa Monica, Calif.
