    COAL TOWNSHIP - Lottie M. Schwalm, 100, of Coal Township and formerly of Rebuck, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2009, at Mountain View Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township, where she had been a patient since Oct. 5, 1988.
    She was born Oct. 24, 1908, in Leck Kill, a daughter of the late Edwin and Mazie (Adams) Kahler. She was married to Elwin Schwalm who preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1958.
    She was educated in the Upper Mahanoy Township schools.
    Lottie was a homemaker and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Leck Kill.
    Lottie enjoyed quilting and cooking, as well as helping on the family farm.
    She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Boyd Gottshall of Herndon and Daniel and Patricia Schwalm of Rebuck, with whom she resided for 30 years; seven grandchildren, Terry Gottshall, Donna Houser, Ann and Angela Strohecker, Daniel A., and Timothy Schwalm, and Diane Bednar; 13 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by four sisters, Esther and Millie Kahler, Edith Klinger, and Mazie Drumheller; and two brothers, Harry and Lloyd Kahler.
    A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Leck Kill, followed by a funeral service at 11, with the Rev. Sonja Ware officiating.
    Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Leck Kill.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lottie's memory to St. John's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Leck Kill, PA 17836, or to Mountain View Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 2050 Trevorton Road, Coal Township, PA 17866.
    The Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, 1133 Ridge Road, Klingerstown has charge of arrangements.

    Born in RR1 Herndon on Oct. 12, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Fred M. and Blanche I. Phillips Schwalm.
    She was a homemaker who enjoyed baby-sitting her grandchildren and playing games with them.
    Violet was a 1949 graduate of Mahoney [sic] Joint High School, RR1 Herndon.
    She was a life member of the St. Paul's UCC Church at Urban, where she had been a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the former Women of the Church.
    She was a member of the Idella Rebekah Lodge #58 of Dornsife.
    Surviving are her husband, Boyd E. Gottshall of RR1 Herndon, whom she married July 5, 1952; one son, Terry Gottshall of RR 1 Herndon; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna and Rick Houser of RR1 Dornsife, Ann and Dave Strohecker of Lykens, and Angela Strohecker of RR1 Herndon; seven grandchildren, Chad Houser, Amy, Brian, Jill, Amanda, Sean and Samantha Strohecker; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Braxton Strohecker; one sister, Mae Hoffman of Gratz; two brothers, Lee and Lynn Schwalm, both of RR1 Herndon; her mother-in-law, Lottie Schwalm of Coal Township; nieces; and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Schwalm in 1948.
    Visitors may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's UCC Church, Urban. The Idella Rebekah Lodge #58 of Dornsife will conduct at service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church immediately followed by the funeral with the Rev. Amy Schultz officiating.
    Burial will be in St. Paul's UCC Cemetery, Urban.
