    — KLINGERSTOWN — Bernice N. Rothermel, 90, of Klingerstown, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Sunbury Community Hospital.
    She was born Friday, Jan. 13, 1922, in Rebuck, a daughter of the late Emory B. and Ida E. (Runkle) Snyder. She was married to Elwood L. “Beck” Rothermel, who preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1999.
    She graduated from Upper Mahanoy Township High School in 1939.
    Bernice was member of Salem Church of Rough and Ready, where she served as the choir director for many years, and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau.
    She enjoyed gardening, freezing and canning and loved spending time with her family.
    Surviving are seven children and their spouses, Carolyn and Earl Zartman, of Millersburg, Joan Rothermel, of Pitman, E. Lester and Louise Rothermel, of Klingerstown, Mary and Donald Frost, of Telford, Ruth and Ronald Williard, of Lykens, Rachael and Robert Bryson, of Halifax, and David and Donna Rothermel, of Klingerstown; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward C. and Clarence W. Snyder; three sisters, Shirley Kauffman, Kathryn Reiner, and Leah Shade; and nieces and nephews
    She was preceded in death by four brothers, Wellington, Elwood, Daniel and the Rev. Verne Snyder, and two sisters, Crystal Reiner and Evelyn Masser.
    A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, 1133 Ridge Road, Klingerstown, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Salem Church of Rough and Ready, Klingerstown, where the funeral service will follow at 11 with the Rev. Mark Rothermel officiating.
    Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Klingerstown.
    Memorial contributions in Bernice’s memory may be made to the Salem Church Organ Fund, 1128 Ridge Road, Klingerstown, PA 17941.

    Elwood L. Rothermel, former supervisor, school director
    Elwood L. "Beck" Rothermel, 84, RR1 Klingerstown, a former member of Tri-Valley School Board and an Upper Mahantongo Township supervisor, died Tuesday afternoon at Ashland Regional Medical Center, where he had been a patient since Sunday. He was in ill health for 18 months.
    Born in Rough and Ready, July 15, 1915, he was a son of the late Charles Allen Rothermel and Carrie A. Kahler Rothermel. He was educated in Upper Ma-hantongo Township schools.
    He was a retired dairy farmer and later raised various fruits and marketed them in the Gratz, Loyalton, Lykens and Wiconisco areas.
    He grafted nut and cherry trees and raised new varieties of fruit trees.
    He was a lifelong member of Salem United Church of Christ Church, RR1 Klingerstown, where he was a former consistory member and former president, deacon and elder and chairman of the Renovation Committee.
    He was a former member of Schuylkill County Dairy Herd Improvement Association and a former member of the board of the Schuylkill County Farm Bureau.
    He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jennie Rothermel, in 1931 and Dorothy Schwalm, in 1991.
    Surviving are his wife, the former Bernice N. Snyder, to whom he was married 58 years; five daughters, Carolyn A. Zartman, RR1 Dalmatia, Joan E. Rothermel, RR1 Klingerstown, Mary I. Frost, Huntingdon Valley, Ruth E. Williard, RR1 Lykens, and Rachael S. Bryson, Halifax; two sons, E. Lester and David A., both of RR1 Klingerstown; four sisters, Helen Landvater, Lititz, Edna Slusser, Nescopeck, Ar-lene Keiter, Hanover, and Verna Dotterer, Mill Hall; nieces and nephews; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Salem UCC, RR1 Klingerstown. The Rev. Mark Rothermel will officiate.
    Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, RR1 Klingerstown.

    Jay M. Smeltz. 53. of Herndon RD 1, died suddenly Thursday morning at his home. He was employed as a truck driver at the Meckley Limestone Company of Herndon. He apparently suffered a heart attack.
    He was born Aug. 30, 1918, in the Dornsife area. He was a son of the late Robert and Rosie Adams Smeltz. He was a member of Himmel's United Church of Christ, Rebuck and a member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge, Camp 229. Treverton.
    Surviving are his widow, the former Katie Klinger; a son Carl, at home; brothers, Raymond, of RD Dornsife; Clarence of Star Route, Dornsife; sisters, Mrs. Stella Rebuck of RD Herndon; Mrs. Paul F. Latsha, Mrs. Paul C. Latsha, both of RD Dornsife.

    Linda D. Smeltz, 66, of Herndon, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021 at her home.
    Linda was born in Sunbury, on January 15, 1955, a daughter of the late Walter and Florence (Stuck) Wynn.
    Linda graduated from the Line Mountain High School.
    She was happily retired and enjoyed being a full time Nana. Before, retirement she was employed at B & I Auto Supply working at the parts counter.
    She enjoyed crafts, camping and reading.
    Linda was a member of Himmel's Church.
    Linda is survived by her husband of 47 years Carl Smeltz., they were married Sept 15, 1973.
    Also surviving are a daughter, Heather, wife of Scott Feese, of Dornsife; two sons Brad, husband of Jennifer Smeltz, of Herndon and Matt, husband of Kylie Smeltz, of Herndon; 6 Grandchildren, Jacob, Cameron James, Cameron Anne, Bronson, Levi, and Tanner; two sisters, Diane Kieffer and Kathie Kerstetter; as well as nieces and nephews.
    Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 19, 2021 from 9-10 AM at Grace Community Church 1218 St. Route 225, Herndon, PA with the funeral service following at 10:00 AM with Pastor Douglas Weygand officiating. Interment will follow in Himmel's Cemetery.
