    Carmel “Gary” Garipoli, 89, of Exeter Township, Reading, passed away Friday, July 31st, at his home. Born in Reading, September 7, 1930, he was the son of the late Sebastian and Philomena Crocona Garipoli. He was a graduate of the Reading High School, class of 1950, where he was a stand-out football player. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Carmel served with the U.S .Navy as a gunner aboard the USS Lake Champlain, receiving the National Defense Medal and the Korean Service Medal. He had been employed as an electronics cleaner with Lucent Technologies, Allentown, until his retirement. Gary was a life member of Victor Emmanuel II Club, Reading. Preceding him in death was his wife, Joyce Klinger Garipoli, passing in 2002.     Born in Butler Township, Aug. 30, 1945, she was a daughter of Ida Marie Rhoades McAndrew, Turnpike Road, Ashland, and the late Joseph L. McAndrew. She attended St. Kieran's Elementary School, Heckscherville, and West Mahanoy Township High School.
    She was a certified nursing assistant for the former Ashland State General Hospital, retiring from Ashland Regional Medical Center's Long Term Care Department in 1997.
    She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Gordon.
    She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert McAndrew, in 1987.
    Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Gene; a son, Gene Klinger II, Gordon; two daughters, Jennifer Klinger, Gordon, and Theresa Conipitski, Shenandoah; three brothers, James and Michael McAndrew, both of Ashland, and Joseph McAndrew, Shenandoah; four sisters, Susan Lloyd and Nancy Boylan, both of Ashland, Margaret Kelly, Shenandoah, and Theresa Quinn, Girardville; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, with the Rev. Larry Delp officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Barry Township.2
