    Joyce B. Koppenhaver, 83, of 1658 E. Main St., Hegins, formerly of Tremont, died Friday at Milton S. Hershey Penn State Medical Center, Hershey, where she had been a patient for two weeks. She had been in ill health since Aug. 3.
    Born in Valley View, Oct. 3, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Calvin and Ida Stiely Schwalm.
    She was a homemaker and a 1941 graduate of Tremont High School.
    She was a lifelong member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Tremont, until her recent move to Hegins, when she became a member of Frieden's United Church of Christ. She was a primary volunteer for Volunteer Home Care, Pine Grove, for the past two years.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton L. Koppenhaver, on June 20, 2000; four children, Ronald, Samuel, Keith and Wendy Koppenhaver; a grandson, Jason Wanamaker.
    Surviving are three sons, Gary Koppenhaver, Shenandoah Heights, Randall Koppenhaver, Hegins, and James Koppenhaver and his wife, Brenda, Tremont; a daughter, Kathy, wife of Ricky Wanamaker, Auburn; six grandchildren, Kelly Miller, Jeremy, Timothy, Stephanie and Matthew Koppenhaver, and Lacie Wanamaker; two sisters, Jean Heinly, Wyomissing, and Mary Strovinsky, St. Louis, Mo; two brothers, Lyle Schwalm, Langhorne, and Jerred Schwalm, Kutztown; nieces and nephews.
    Viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in Frieden's United Church of Christ, Hegins, followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church. The Rev. Claude Schach and the Rev. Mark Brooks will officiate. Interment will be in Valley View Church of God Cemetery. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, 1133 Ridge Road, Klingerstown, has charge of arrangements.

    Jerred was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, Huguenot Lodge #377 F&AM Kutztown, Reading Consistory, Rajah Temple Shrine, American Legion Post 480 of Kutztown and life member of V F W Post 6931, Davenport, Florida.
    Jerred is survived by four children: Bruce J. Schwalm husband of Rita K. (Adam), Klinesville, Burt J. Schwalm husband of the late Margo A. (Hoffman) of Breingsville, Bradley J. Schwalm husband of Kay A. (Flicker) of Kutztown and Beth J. (Schwalm) wife of Troy A. Adam of Mertztown. Five grandchildren: Andrea L. Hilliard, Katie B. Kehm, Arielle L. Levine, Jeremiah F. Schwalm and Keegan T. Adam. Four great grandsons: Tucker J. Hilliard, Jason L. Hilliard, Cooper S. Kehm and Caleb J. Schwalm, and one great granddaughter Calliope M. Kehm.
    He was predeceased by his daughter Karen R. Schwalm in 1961, and siblings Joyce Koppenhaver, Lyle R. Schwalm, Jean Heinly and Mary Strovinsky.
    Jerred enjoyed spending time with family, camping, and traveling.
    A viewing will be Thursday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. Masonic Services by the Huguenot Lodge will be at 8:00 pm. A second viewing will be Friday morning from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home followed by funeral services at11:00 am. Burial will be in Maidencreek Cemetery, Blandon.

    Ruth M. Schwalm Ruth M. Schwalm, 80, of Kutztown passed away on May 19, 2009. In Laurel Center, Tilden Township. She was the wife Jerred F. Schwalm. They would have been married 60 years on the 30th of July. Born in Maidencreek Township daughter of the late David R. and Mary (Dutt) Burgert. A member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ Kutztown. She also was a member of Eastern Star Lodge 336, Kutztown and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Kutztown Fire Co. Her life was spent being a wife, mother, grandmother. Interests included crocheting and doing puzzles. Survivors: Husband; three sons, Bruce J. and his wife Rita K. Schwalm, of Klinesville, Burt J. and his late wife Margo A. Schwalm, Breinigsville, Bradley J. and his wife Kay A. Schwalm, Kutztown; daughter, Beth J. (Schwalm) and husband Troy A. Adam, Mertztown; five grandchildren, Andrea L. Hilliard and her husband Brian Hilliard, Katie B. Adam, Arielle L. Schwalm, Jeremiah F. Schwalm and Keegan T. Adam; one great-grandson Tucker J. Hilliard. Predeceased by her daughter Karen R. Schwalm who died 1961. Services: Will be Saturday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m. from the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. Burial will be in Maidencreek Cemetery, Blandon. A viewing will be Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to time of service at the funeral home. Eastern Star Services will be Friday evening at 8:30 p.m.
