    Jared Bohn Faust, superintendent of the lettering department of the Eagle Marble and Granite Works, died Saturday at 12.30 p. m. at his residence, 927 North Third street, of heart trouble, aged 65 years. Mr. Faust was ill only a day and his sudden death was a shock to his many friends.
    He was born, in this city on August 22, 1846, and lived here ever since, He was a well known member of the First Reformed church, and also Chandler Lodge, 227, F. and A. M; Excelsior Chapter, No. 247, Royal Arch Masons; Reading Commandery, No. 42, Knights Templar; Rajah Tem ple, A. A.O. N. M. S., and the Temple Flower Fund; Reading Castle, No. 49, Knights of the Golden Eagle: Mystic Star Commandery, No. 47 Knights of Malta and the Knights of friendship.
    He is survived by his widow, Hannah (nee Schwalm), also a daughter, Anna F., wife of Wilson H. Eisenbrown, and a son, William H., and a brother. David, of this city, and two sisters, Mrs. Amelia Wenrlch, of Northumberland county, and Mrs. Mary Harner, of Schuylkill county, and five grandchildren.

    Jared Bohn Faust, aged 65 years, a prominent citizen and for 37 years connected with the Eagle Marble and Granite Company, died at 12:30 this afternoon at his residence, 927 North Third street, after a brief illness. Death was due to heart disease. Deceased had been in excellent health until Friday morning. Shortly before noon Friday he complained of a slight pain in the region of the heart. He worked the entire day.
    Upon retiring Friday night the pain became more severe, and this morning he was unable to get out of bed. Before noon the family physician was summoned, but despite medical attention, the end came at 12:30.
    Mr. Faust was a life-long resident of this city. He was born August 27, 1846. His parents, Reuben and Polly Faust (nee Bohn), died some years ago. For 37 years deceased had been superintendent of the lettering department of the marble and granite works.
    Mr. Faust was married 41 years. He is survived by his widow, Hannah (nee Schwalm), who is a native of Schuylkill county. Two children, Annie F., wife of Wilson H. Eisenbrown, and William F. Faust, both of this city; one brother, David Faust, Reading, and two sisters, Mrs. Amelia Wenrich, Northumberland county, and Mrs. Mary Harner, Schuylkill county, besides five grandchildren, survive.
    Deceased was active in fraternal organizations. He was a member of Chandler Lodge, 227 F. and A. M; Excelsior Chapter, No. 247, Royal Arch Masons, Reading Commandery, No. 42, Knights Templar; Rajah Temple; A. A. O. N. M.     Additional biographical information:
    Jared was born near Wernersville, Berks County, PA. Before 1850, Jared's parents moved their family to Upper Mahanoy township, Northumberland county, PA. They would live in the tri-county area of Dauphin, Northumberland and Schuylkill counties for the next 25 years.
    At an early age, Jared and his brother David apprenticed in the craft of stone cutting and engraving under the tutelage of the Rev. Isaac Stiely. Isaac Stiely, the son of George Stiely and Elisabeth Faust, was a first cousin of Jared's father. Rev. Stiely was a renowned minister, artist and engraver in the Mahantango Valley. Isaac's extraordinary engravings can be found on many headstones throughout the Mahantango and Lykens valleys. His artwork, which adorns many early pieces of treasured Mahantango furniture, is highly coveted by collectors today.
    In October of 1870, Jared married Hannah Schwalm of Hubley Township, Schuylkill County. Hannah was the daughter of Jacob Schwalm and Justina Klinger. Their son Oscar was born the following spring. Scarlet fever took the life of young Oscar in April of 1873, soon after, Jared, Hannah and Jared's brother David, all moved to Reading, Berks County.
    Once in Reading, Jared and David became employed at the Eisenbrown P. F., Sons & Company (Eagle Marble & Granite Company). Jared would become the superintendent of engraving, and eventually become a limited partner in the firm, with his brother David overseeing the engraving department. Several monuments located at Gettysburg National Historic Park were sculptured by Eisenbrown & Company, notably, the 93rd and 151st.
    Jared's daughter Annie, married Wilson Eisenbrown; son of Penrose Eisenbrown, founder of Eisenbrown P. F. & Company.3,4
