Girl, Ill With Measles Dies Of Heart Attack
Miss Hilda Schwalm, 18, daughter of Mrs. Barbara Schwalm, of Klingerstown R. D., died at her home at 2 o'clock this morning from a heart attack. She had been ill with measles the past several days but an examination revealed that death was caused by a sudden heart attack. She died before medical aid could be summoned.
Surviving are her mother, and the following brothers and sisters, Jennie, Walter, Guy and Tillie, all at home; Mrs. William Schwalm, Valley View; Mrs. Jacob Schlegel, Valley View; Mrs. Harlan Heim, Dornsife; Leon Schwalm, Lykens; John Schwalm, Klingerstown, and Ira Schwalm, Spring Glen.
Private funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home. Rev. Shuman Wise, pastor of the Pillow Holiness church, will officiate and interment will be made in the Klinger's cemetery at Erdman.

She held public sale of real estate and household items on Saturday, 26 June, 1993. Born Sept. 12, 1916, in Klingerstown, she was the daughter and last surviving member of the late Albert and Barbara Clark Schwalm family.
She worked in area factories in Gratz and Millersburg, having last been employed by the former Phil Mark Manufacturing Co., Valley View.
Tillie was a member of God's Missionary Church, Pillow, and enjoyed crafts and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Meda Schwalm, Bertha Schlegel, Beula Maurer Heim and Hilda Schwalm; seven brothers, Stephen, Leon, John, Ira, Gurney, Walter and Guy Schwalm.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Nora Fietta Welker, wife of Frank A. Welker, died at her home, Spruce Street, Elizabethville, on Tuesday.
Mrs. Welker was a daughter of Simon and Mary (Kembel) Snyder, and was a native of Greenbrier, Northumberland County. She was a member of God's Missionary Church, Pillow.

In 1996 she received the Direct Service Volunteer of the Year Award from the Volunteer Center of York County.

LeRoy A. Schwalm, 77, of 93 Main St., Klingerstown, died Saturday at the home of his companion, Elsie E. Burrell, 306 S. Market St., Millersburg. He had been in ill health for the past six months.
Born in Klingerstown, July 13, 1928, he was a son of the late John A. Schwalm and Margaret Klinger Schwalm Martz.
Mr. Schwalm was a retired steel worker at the former Bethlehem Steel Co., Steelton, retiring in 1985.
He was educated in Klingerstown area schools and enjoyed woodworking, hunting and playing cards.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran (Klingers) Church, Erdman, where he was a former church council member. He also served on Zion Cemetery Association Board of Directors. He was a member of Hegins Valley Rotary, Klingerstown Fire Company, Millersburg Moose and Woodmen of the World Lodge, Camp 433, Pitman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley V. Erdman Schwalm, who died Jan. 23, 1995; a brother, Lawrence Schwalm.
Surviving are his companion, Elsie E. Bom in Urban, Aug. 19, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Charles and May Shaffer Rothermel.
Retired, she was employed by Blyler Fruit Farm and Quaker State Farms, both of Spring Glen.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Gratz Area Senior Citizens.
Her husband, Ira, died in 1983.

He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, where he served as a church trustee, choir member and Communion steward.

Paul enjoyed hunting, spending time outdoors and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his first wife, Nancy Harner Schwalm, and a step-grandson, Chase Witmer.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine M. He had been in ill health for the past two years.
Born in Dornsife RD1, June 8, 1903, he was a son of the late Samuel and Mary Mauser Heim. His wife, the former Beula Schwalm, died in 1981.
He was of the United Church of Christ faith.
Mr. Heim retired from farming in 1968.

Ernest R. Heim, 79, of Dornsife, passed away on March 25, 2022, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born in Upper Mahanoy Twp on September 8, 1942, a son of the late Beula and Harlen R. Heim. Ernest was employed for 30 years at Bethlehem Steel in Steelton. He was a member of New Life EC Church, Herndon, Klingerstown Fire Company, Fiddlers Run, Erdman Sportsman's Association and the Mosquito Creek Sportsman's Club.
Ernest is survived by his wife Sandra Heim, son, Glenn (Deborah) Heim; daughter, Linda (Gary) Lesher; brother, Clarence "Jack" Maurer; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers Lester Maurer and Raymond Heim, sister, June Maurer.
A viewing will be held on March 29, 2022 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at New Life EC Church, Herndon. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at 11:00 am at the New Life EC Church, Herndon. Interment will take place in the St John's Cemetery, Leck Hill.²

Raymond A. Heim, 59, of RD1, Dornsife, died Monday morning after a farm tractor accident on his farm.
Born at RD1 Dornsife on April 2, 1936, he was a son of the late Harlen R. and Beula A. Schwalm Maurer Heim.
He was a farmer and retired crane operator, having been employed for 30 years by Bethlehem Steel at Steelton until retiring March 31, 1995.
He was a 1954 graduate of the former Mahanoy Joint High School at RD1, Herndon.
He was of the Protestant faith and had served in the Pennsylvania National Guard at Sunbury.
An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association of Vandalia, Ohio, and the Hegins Trap Club of Hegins.
A sister, June Maurer, also preceded him in death Jan. 21, 1986.
Surviving are three brothers, Ernest R. Heim, of RD1 Dornsife, Lester Maurer and Clarence Maurer, both of RD1, Dalmatia; nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RD1 Klingerstown. The Rev. Randall Sizemore, pastor of the Evangelical Congregational Church, Herndon, will officiate.
Interment will be in St. John's Reformed Cemetery at Leck Kill.

Schlegel married Bertha Viola Schwalm, daughter of Albert Peter Schwalm and Barbara A. Clark.⁴ Jacob O. Schlegel lived in Valley View, Hegins Township, Schuylkill County, PA.¹ He died on 17 January 1990, Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville, Schuylkill County, PA, at age 87.¹

     Guy A. Schwalm was born on 8 November 1915, Klingerstown RD, Schuylkill County, PA.¹ He was the son of Bertha Viola Schwalm.² Although Guy's obituary and other sources list Albert and Barbara (Clark) Schwalm as his parents, this is probably not accurate. While they raised him as their son, it is unknown whether there was a formal adoption.
Guy is consistently listed as Albert and Barbara's grandson in the 1920, 1930, and 1940 Census listings. Similarly, Barbara's newspaper obituary does not list Guy as one of her children, nor does Albert's brief newspaper obituary that says that he was survived by 10 children, which would also effectively exclude Guy. At this point, there appears to be little hard evidence that would identify Guy's birth parents, although one of them is almost certainly another of Albert and Barbara's children. One source indcates that Guy's mother was Bertha Viola Schwalm.^{3,4,5,6,7,8,9,2} Guy A. Schwalm died on 6 December 1984, Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg, Dauphin County, PA, at age 69.¹⁰

     Anna Irene Gilbert was born on 21 May 1930.³ She was the daughter of Ralph Gilbert and Susan E. Savidge.² Anna Irene Gilbert married Mark Henry Schlegel, son of Jacob O. Schlegel and Bertha Viola Schwalm, circa 1953.⁴ As of circa 1953,her married name was Schlegel.⁴ Anna Irene Gilbert died on 15 June 2007, at age 77.⁵

Marie Ruth Schlegel was baptized on 17 February 1927, Zion (Kllinger's) Lutheran Church, Erdman, Dauphin County, PA.³ As of circa 1948,her married name was Freeman.^1,2 She lived in Lancaster, Lancaster County, PA.² She died on 8 December 2003, the Glen at Willow Valley, Lancaster County, PA, at age 77.^2,4 She was buried at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Lebanon County, PA.⁵
