    Minerva E. Mervine, 72, of RD1 New Ringgold, died Thursday morning at home of natural causes.
    Born in McKeansburg, she was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Elizabeth Stoker Mover.
    She was employed for 35 years as a machine operator by the Fessler Knitting Mill, Orwigsburg, retiring in 1985.
    She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ Church, McKeansburg.
    Preceding her in death was her husband, Alfred S. Mervine, on June 26,1987.
    Surviving are three daughters, Thelma H. Slurdik, Bath, Hettie M. Neidlinger, McKeansburg, and Lois A. Krause, Orwigsburg; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the John II. Lundbye Funeral Home, Inc., Orwigsburg. The Rev. Dale Shellhamer and the Rev. Jeffrey Rudloff will officiate. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Fark, North Manheim Township.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1963; four sons, William, Joseph, Darrin and James Dean; a daughter, Carol Hauze.

    Her husband, Marvin C. Brandstatter Sr., died October 30, 1998.
    Born in Frackville, she was a daughter of the late Alfred S. and Laura Bowen Mervine. She was a factory worker for a pajama factory in Frackville and last worked at a mushroom plant in Centerport until 1981.
    Surviving is a son, Marvin C. Brandstatter Jr., Tilden Township; three daughters, Linda L. Brandstatter Brennaman, Pittsburgh, Joan M. Brandstatter Huey, with whom she resided in Port Carbon, and Nancy A. Brandstatter Quick, Shoemakersville; a brother, Clarence N. Mervine, Frackville; two sisters, Betty Mervine Dean, Frackville, and Laura Mervine Rothacker, Palatine, 111; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

    Laura Bowen Rothacker of Luther Acres in Lititz, formerly of Palatine, 111., and Minersville, Pa., passed away on January 18, 2016, after a long illness.
    Laura was born in Frackville, Pa., on September 4th, 1929.
    She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Gerald W Rothacker, Sr., who died in 1996, her parents Laura Mae (Bowen) and Alfred Mervine, and eleven brothers and sisters.
    She is survived by her sons Dr. Gerald (Carla), Lititz, Pa; Alan (Kate), Lititz, Pa; and Kenneth (Gail), Rolling Meadows, 111., nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
    Laura was a loving wife who cared for her husband through a 12-year chronic illness. She was a 1950s stay-at-home Mom to her kids and loved being an amazing Granny.
    While living in Minersville she sold Tupperware and Avon and later in life managed the grille at the Kmart in Palatine, Ill. She could play pinochle with the best and had many friends from card clubs, Bible studies, and the neighborhoods where she had lived.
    Her post card collection covered decades.
    She resided in Lancaster County since 2009, first at St. John Herr's Estate in Columbia and more recently at Luther Acres Manor in Lititz. She was Lutheran and regularly attended at the Chapel at Luther Acres.
    She will be missed by all whose lives she touched and to whom she was always "so nice."
    The family wishes to especially thank the staffs of St. John Herr's Estate Personal Care and Luther Acres Healthcare Center who took such good care of her.
    A memorial service is planned for a future date.

    Two Frackville Men Killed in Mine Fall
    Two Frackville men were killed last evening in an independent mining operation last evening near Valley View. They were crushed in a fall of rock and. coal that followed a premature dynamite blast.
    One is father of six children and the other father of four daughters.
    Both William E. Dean, 35, of 443 West Pine street and David F. Price, 59, of 12 South Railroad avenue, Frackville, were caught in the full force of the blast and subsequent fall. A piece of timber penetrated one man's head and the other was severely cut about the neck and side of the head.
    Deputy Coroner A. R. Buffington, of Valley View, conducted a routine investigation and released the bodies to the Nice Funeral Service at Frackville for burial. Mr. Buffington continued the investigation, however, and consulted Gordon Smith, state . deputy secretary of mines, at his Pottsville office.
    Dean accepted employment in the mine, operated by the Cleaton L. Kehler and Son Coal Company, last September. Price was employed in the mine since last June. Both men are life-long residents of Frackville.1,2

    He was a member of the Church of God. An experienced man in mining, he was employed at various regional collieries prior to taking the job at Valley View.
    Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Mervine; his mother, Mrs. Sadie Wentzel Dean, both of Frackville V and six children, Paul, Laura, William Jr., Carol Ann, Joseph and James, all at home.
    He also leaves three sisters, Elizabeth, wife of Harry Price, of Frackville; Irene, wife of Nelson Miller, of Helfenstein; Doris, wife of Roy Schaeffer, of Bethlehem, and one brother, Joseph Dean, of Frackville.2

    James A. Dean, 27, of 116 W. Pine St., Frackville, died early this morning in Good Samaritan Hospital where he was a patient since Tuesday.
    He was born in Frackville, a son of Elizabeth Mervine Dean, with whom he resided and the late William Dean, who died March 14, 1963.
    He was of the Lutheran faith.
    Surviving, in addition to his mother, are four brothers, Paul, William, Joseph and Darin, all of Frackville; two sisters, Carol Hauze, Frackville and Laura Tomko, Pittstown, N.J; nieces and nephews and his paternal grandmother, Sadie Dean, Frackville.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from Nice Funeral Home, Frackville. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Frackville.

    Carol Ann Hauze, 57, formerly of Frackville, died Saturday at Shenandoah Manor Nursing Center, Shenandoah.
    Born in Frackville, Jan. 14, 1950, she was a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Mervine Dean.
    She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Frackville, and a former board member and cheerleading advisor for Frackville Area Midget Football Association for more than 18 years.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hauze Jr., and four brothers, James Dean, Darrin "Diz" Dean, William Dean and Joseph Dean.
    Surviving are a son, Robert Hauze III, Frackville; two daughters, Lori Leatherman, Girardville, and Shaleen E. Hauze, Frackville; three granddaughters, Rochelle S. Hauze, Bobbi Jo Leatherman and Shawna Bernotas; four grandsons, Jeremy J. Leatherman, Darrin R. Hauze, Jesse J. Weikel and Dylan Bernotas; a brother, Paul Dean, Frackville; a sister, Laura Mae Tomko, New Jersey; a great-granddaughter, Brandi Zendrosky.
    Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Nice-Hart Funeral Home Inc., 9 N. Lehigh Ave., Frackville. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday from the funeral home, with the Rev. Cynthia Kennett officiating. There will be a funeral procession leaving the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday for the interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Frackville.
