    MOUNT CARMEL - E. Willard Maurer, 340 W. Third St., died at 11:45 a.m. Friday in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he had been a patient for three days. He was stricken Tuesday during a prayer meeting. He was president of Maurer's Wayside Dairy, Mount Carmel.
    Mr. Maurer was born in Pitman, June 10, 1917, son of Lewis Maurer of Mount Carmel and the late Edna Dietz Maurer. He married the former Mary Bohaczyk, who survived.
    He was a member of the Bethany Bible Fellowship Church, Mount Carmel; a member of the church board; teacher in the men's Bihle class; class leader for Wednesday night Bible Class; and a member and former president of the Gideon Society for the local area.
    He was a veteran of World War II.
    Mr. Maurer is survived, in addition to his widow, by a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Stein of Baltimore, Md. and a son, Earl L. of Greenfield, N.H; two brothers, Harold and Robert of Mount Carmel and one sister, Esther Maurer of Philadelphia.
    The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Willard A. Rothermel Funeral Home, Mount Carmel. His pastor, the Rev. Alva Cassell, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Kenneth Maurer of Myerstown, a relative of Mr. Maurer's.
    Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery, Pitman.
    Friends and relatives may call at funeral home Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.
    Contributions may be made to the Bethany Bible Church's building fund.

    MOUNT CARMEL - Harold H. Maurer, 60, of 350 W. Third St., a co-proprietor of Maurer's Wayside Dairy, Mount Carmel, died at 1 : 30 a.m. Monday in the Shamokin State General Hospital, where he had been a patient for about one hour.
    Born in Pitman July 11, 1920, he was the son of the late Lewis R. and Edna T. Dietz Maurer. In 1941, he married the former Sarah Reed, a former Sunbury resident.
    Mr. Maurer was a 1938 graduate of Mount Carmel High School. He was one of the originators of Little League Baseball in Mount Carmel.
    A veteran of World War II, he received the Purple Heart.
    Mr. Maurer was a member of the Evangelical Christian Church and F&AM 378, both of Mount Carmel; American Legion, Atlas; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Valley View; Sons of Union Veterans, Mount Carmel; past president and member of Mount Carmel Rotary Club; treasurer of Big Brothers of Mount Carmel ; president of the Salvation Army Service Unit, Mount Carmel; Mount Carmel Moose; and Pennsylvania Association of Milk Dealers.
    In addition to his wife,he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sally Ann Kahler of Greensboro, N.C., and Mrs. Kathryn Ritchie of Mechanicsburg; seven grandchildren; one brother, Robert of Mount Carmel; and one sister, Esther Maurer of Philadelphia.
    The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Willard A. Rothermel Funeral Home, Mount Carmel, by the Rev. Albert Kahler, superintendent of Pine Grove, the Rev. Charles Holland of Pine Grove and the Rev. Malcolm Burns of Mount Carmel. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
    Friends may call in the funeral home Wednesday evening.

    Surviving are two sons, Robert Maurer, of Santa Cruz, California, and Lewis R. Maurer, of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Also surviving is a sister, Esther J. Maurer, of Mount Carmel.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Fanella Maurer, in 2006; and two brothers, Willard and Harold Maurer.

    MOUNT CARMEL -- Sarah H. "Sally" Maurer, 80, of 850 W. Third St. went to eternal rest with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
    She was born April 22, 1921, in Mount Carmel, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Louise (Zimmerman) Reed. She was married to Harold Maurer, who preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1980.
    She was a graduate of Sunbury High School. She and her husband owned and operated Maurer's Dairy until her retirement.
    Mr. and Mrs. Maurer were very active in the Mount Carmel Salvation Army and the First United Methodist Church, Mount Carmel, where Sally had taught Sunday school; was a member of the church choir; the Methodist Women; and was on the church's financial board.
    She was a former member of Chrysanthemum Chapter OES, Mount Carmel. Sally loved to sing.
    Surviving are two daughters, Sally Ann Kahler of Greensboro, N.C., and Kathryn Ritchie of Clearwater, Fla; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Rowe of Sunbury and Peggy Baumgartner of Lewisburg; one brother, Howard Reed of Sunbury; one brother-in-law, Will Yeager; six nieces; and five nephews.
    She was preceded in death by one brother, Ted Reed, and four sisters, Charlotte Hardwickr Ida Yeager, Peggy Shirley and Leah Bittles.
    Visitors may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church of Mount Carmel. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church by the Rev. Michael Straub.
    Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mount Carmel or to the Mount Carmel Public Library.

    She was born Oct. 12, 1929, in Atlas, to the late Anthony and Concetta (Moffa) Fanella. She was a graduate of Mount Carmel Catholic High School and a 1976 graduate of Geisinger School of Practical Nursing. She also attended Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.
    She married Robert A. Maurer on Feb. 11, 1950, in Mount Carmel.
    She had worked for the Department of the Blind after graduating from high school, and later volunteered as a secretary for the Mount Carmel Industrial Growth Organization.
    She had also acted as secretary and was very active with Mount Carmel High School Band Parents Booster Club. She volunteered as Sunday school special education teacher for the Bible Fellowship Church, Mount Carmel.
    She was a former member of Christian Women’s Organization and a member of First United Methodist Church, Mount Carmel.
    In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Robert A. Maurer Jr. of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Lewis R. and partner Daniel A. Crowley of Hummelstown; two brothers, Henry Fanella and Robert B. Fanella; and one sisters, Grace Fracalosi.
    She was preceded in death by seven siblings.
