    KLINGERSTOWN -- Ada I. Troutman, 87, of Klingerstown, died at 1:20 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at her home. She had been ill for the past several years.
    She was born June 28, 1914, in Erdman, Lykens Township, a daughter of the late Gurney and Sally (Rebuck) Klinger. On July 3, 1930, she married John D. Troutman, who survives.
    Mrs. Troutman was educated at Kessler School, Lykens Township.
    She was a homemaker and enjoyed flower gardening, quilting, and baking.
    Mrs. Troutman was a member of Zion "Klingers" Lutheran Church, Erdman, RR1 Lykens, and was a former member of the Sunshine Class of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Klingerstown.
    Surviving, in addition to her husband, are one son and daughter-in-law, Guy C. "Johnny" and Juno Troutman of RR1 Lykens; two grandchildren, Dennis L. Troutman and Linda S. Geise; two greatgrandchildren, Gabriel Geise and Melanie Geise; one sister, Gertie Stiely of Erdman, RR1 Lykens; one brother, Irvin Klinger of Elizabethville; and nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Sallada, and one brother, Clarence Klinger.
    Visitors may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion "Klinger's" Lutheran Church, Erdman, RR1 Lykens. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church by the Rev. Joel Petruschke of Klingerstown, her pastor. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Erdman, RR1 Lykens.

  • Although Irwin's obituary lists his date of birth as 17 June 1917, he is not listed among his parents' children in the 1920 Census, while he is listed as 9 years old at the time of the 1930 Census, suggesting that the correct year of birth should be 1920, which is consistent with other sources.5,6,2

    Dr. Irwin R. Klinger, 83, of Erdman, retired principal of Upper Dauphin Elementary Schools, died Wednesday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Lebanon.
    Born in Erdman, June 17, 1917, he was a son of the late Gurney and Sallie Rebuck Klinger.
    He was a veteran of World War II, serving in seven different campaigns: North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, Luxembourg, France and Germany.
    He taught grades one through eight in Amish North Mountain View School from 1978-81 and South Mountain View School from 1981-84.
    He was a Pennsylvania Dutch playwright, writing for the Dutch Forsumling. He also taught Dutch classes over the years.
    He wrote the history of Klinger's Lutheran Church, Erdman, and helped the Gratz Historical Society collect material for its upcoming book on Lykens Township.
    He was a member of Zion Klinger's Lutheran Church, Erdman, where he taught Sunday school for many years, a life member of Pennsylvania German Society, Breinigsville, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Harrisburg and Susquehanna Lodge 364, F&AM, Millersburg.
    He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence; three sisters, Mabel Sallada, Ada Troutman and Gertie Daniel Stieley.
    Surviving are 10 nephews and three nieces, including Salley Hepler, Gratz, Larry Daniel, Williamstown, and John Stieley, Elizabethville, who were his caretakers.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion "Klinger's" Lutheran Church. James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, is in charge of arrangements.4
