Shamokin Woman Claimed by Death
Mrs. Cora V. Zimmerman. 72. died last night: in her home 922 East Dewart Street, following an illness of several years.
Mrs. Zimmerman, a daughter the late Frank and Susan (Wolfe) of Bowers, was born September 14. 1879, in Shamokin. Mrs. Zimmerman attended Coal Township schools and 55 rears ago was married to Charles Bowman. who died in 1907. Three years later, the late city matron was married to David Zimmerman, who died 13 years ago. Mrs. Zimmerman Was a member of St. ohn Reformed Church.
The Dewart Street resident is survived by three children. Mrs. Elizabeth Scandle, Mrs. Catherine Waugh, Mrs. Isaac Fisher, all of Shamokin: two step-children, George Bowman, Shamokin, and William Bowman, Philadelphia; two brothers, John and George Bowers. Shamokin; two sisters, Mrs. Delilah Zimmerman. and Mrs. Emma Rubendall, Philadelpnia; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Scandie, 926 East Dewart Street. Monday afternoon, beginning at 2:00. Rev. LeRoy Brumbaugh, pastor of Salem Reformed Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Viewing will be in the Scandle home from Monday noon until time of the services.

George Bowman
SHAMOKIN- George Bowman, 79, of 1750 Holly St., Shamokin, died Sunday at 2:45 : a. m. in Shamokin State General Hospital. He was 1 ill four months and hospitalized one week.
Born in Buck Run, June 20, 1894, he was a son of Charles and Sadie Zimmerman Bowman. He moved to Shamokin when a child. He was employed as a miner having worked at the Burnside, Glen Burn and Green Ridge Collieries. He also was employed as an attendant at the Selinsgrove State School.
George Bowman and the former Josephine Nye were married Mar. 18, 1922 in Shamokin. The deceased attended Coal Township Schools and was ordained into Pentecastal Ministry of Union Christian Church, Middleburg, Sept. 7, 1931. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church, Dornsife, and the V.F.W. Mr. Bowman served with the U.S.Army during World War I and served overseas with the 109th Supply Train.
Survivors include the widow, and the following children, the Rev. George Bowman, Shamokin; Mrs. Edward (Phyllis) Lippay, Shamokin; Mrs. Percy (Barbara) Welker, Shamokin; Mrs. Leonard (Helen) Schlagle, Shamokin; Terry Berkheiser, Shamokin; Richard Bowman, Kulpmont; The Rev. John Bowman, Middleburg; Mrs. Chester (Madeline) Moser, Ephrata; 26 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, a brother, William Bowman, Philadelphia, and thee sisters, Elizabeth Scandle, and Clara Fisher, both of Shamokin, and Kathryn Whary, Bryn Mawr.
Farrow Funeral Directors, Shamokin, are in charge of arrangements.

Commerce Street Resident Expires After Brief Illness
Charles M. Bowman, 48, of 215 East Commerce Street, died yesterday in his home, following an illness of one week.
Charles Monroe Bowman, a son of Mrs. Cora Bowman Zimmerman and the late Charles Bowman, was born August 18, 1900, in Shamokin. He attended Coal Township schools, and for a number of years he was employed as a miner at Burnside Colliery. Bowman was employed by Charles D. Steiner, local stripping contractor, until he was recently stricken ill. He was a member of the Maine Fire Company.
Surviving are the mother, a daughter, Dorothy, Allentown; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Scandle, Mrs. Catherine Waugh and Mrs. Clara Fisher, all of Shamokin, and two half-brothers, William Bowman, Philadelphia, and George Bowman, Shamokin. Bowman was married to the former Miss Pearl Helt, who died in 1935.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon in the Farrow Funeral Home, Sixth and Chestnut Streets, beginning at 3:30. Rev. H. C. Baer, pastor of St. John Reformed Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. Viewing will be in the funeral home Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 and Saturday until time of services.

SHAMOKIN WOMAN DIES FROM SWALLOWING ACID
As the result of having swallowed carbolic acid, Mrs. Pearl Bowman, 32, of Shamokin, died Sunday afternoon while being carried to the Shamokin State hospital. The reason for her rash act is unknown. She was in good health and had no domestic difficulties insofar as is known.
The woman gulped the poison during the absence of her husband, John Bowman, who was attending a base ball game at Bunker Hill.
She appeared at the window of her home and told John Long, a neighbor that she had taken poison.
Long summoned a doctor and the hospital ambulance. The woman was unconscious when her husband arrivled and died while being carried into the hospital.
She is survived by her husband, a foster son, and by her parents and two brothers.

SHAMOKIN - Mrs. Clara Fisher, 78, of 950 W. Walnut St. died Saturday night in Shamokin State General Hospital, where she was admitted Thursday.
Born in Shamokin, June 28, 1907, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Cora Bower Bowman.
She was married in 1922 to Isaac J. Fisher, who died in 1980.
Mrs. Fisher attended Shamokin schools and was a member of St.
Joseph's Church and the Ramblers Club.
She is survived by three children, William E. of Shamokin, Charles of Robbinsville, N.J., and Mrs. Gloria Jean Komara of Downingtown; eight grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Whary of Hatfield.
A son, John, died in 1977.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow in St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 this evening in the James P. Kelley
Funeral Home, Shamokin, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.

William E. Fisher, 85, Elysburg
ELYSBURG - William E. Fisher, 85, formerly of 4 Columbia Drive, died at 11:35 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at Mountain View Manor Nursing and Rehabiliation Center, Coal Township.
He was born in Shamokin on Sept. 13, 1922, a son of the late Isaac and Clara (Bowman) Fisher.
He attended St. Joseph Elementary School and was a graduate of Coal Township High School, class of 1941. He played football in high school from 1937 to 1940.
Bill was married on April 11, 1942, in St. Joseph Church, Coal Township, by the Rev. Daniel Crowley to the former Rita C. (Mudrick) Fisher, who died Nov. 16, 2001. At the time of Rita's death, they had been married 59 years.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Fisher enlisted in the U.S. Army on Feb. 20, 1943, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant on Jan. 14, 1946. He served in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-American-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze stars.
Bill lived in Shamokin all of his life until moving to Elysburg in 1989. He worked at Fuhrmann & Schmidt Brewery for 10 years and Russ Moyer Distributors for 25 years. Bill retired as a sales manager for Durdach Distributors in 1988.
A parishioner of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, Elysburg, Bill was also a life member of the all of the following: Knights of Columbs, 4th Degree Cardinal Mindzenty, Shamokin, West End Fire Company, Shamokin; Fraternal Order of Eagles 503, Sunbury; and Veterans of Foreign Wars 8298, Northumberland.
His favorite pastimes were fly-fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and James "Jimo" Wasakoski of Elysburg; one granddaughter, Jenna Wasakoski of Coal Township; one sister and brother-in-law, Gloria Jean and Joseph Komara of Downingtown; one brother and sister-inlaw, Charles and Nancy Fisher of North Caroline; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by one grandson, James Matthew "Jimmy" Wasakoski on May 3, 2002; one son, Edward in 1947; one brother, Jack Fisher; and two sisters, Mary and Shirley Fisher.
Visitors may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch and Maple streets, Coal Township.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, 103 W.
Center St., Elysburg, with the Rev. Joseph Fennesey officiating.
Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Elsyburg.

Gloria J. Komara, 78, of Downingtown, PA, died July 13, 2023, with her family by her side at Paoli Hospital.
She was born November 5, 1944, in Coal Township, PA, to Isaac and Clara Fisher. Her father was a coal miner, and her mother was a homemaker.
Gloria graduated from Coal Township High School in 1962. She met her future husband, Joseph V. Komara, while he was working for his dad as a stone mason on her parent’s home. They were married on June 1, 1963, and just celebrated 60 years of marriage together.
Gloria and Joe moved to North Jersey where she worked in the medical field as an office manager. In the early 80s they moved from North Jersey to Sarasota, FL, for a year. Then moved back to Shamokin, PA, for a year, moved to Kalamazoo, MI, for 2 years, and landed in Downingtown, PA, in 1983, where she lived the remainder of her life. Gloria was well known in the Paoli Hospital family, as she managed a gastroenterology practice and then a cardiology practice until retirement.
Gloria was a faithful Catholic and frequently prayed to her patron saint, Padre Pio. She was a member of the Union County Sportsman’s Club, Weikert, PA. Her hobbies and interests included family, fly fishing in the mountains of Weikert, PA, the beaches of Ocean City, MD, bingo, crafts & sewing, RV life with Joe, trips to the casino and family dinners.
Mrs. Komara is survived by her husband, Joseph V. Komara, 2 daughters and their spouses, Christine and Louis Mion of Three Rivers, MI, and Deborah and Bernard Gunn of Downingtown, PA; 5 grandchildren (Jessica, Kathryn, Michael, Matthew, and Amanda); and 3 great-grandchildren (Natalie, Hunter and Eric).
She was preceded in death by her 5 siblings, William Fisher, Charles Fisher, John Fisher, Shirley Fisher, and Mary Fisher.
At her request, no service will be held.
