Mervin William Adams1

  • Last Edited: 6 Jan 2026

  • He was the son of William Oscar Adams and Dora C. Deibler.1
  • Mervin William Adams married Edith Allegra Landis on 28 March 1948, Uper Paxton Township, Dauphin County, PA.2
  • Mervin William Adams died on 1 May 2018, Carolyn's Hospice Residence, Millersburg, Dauphin County, PA, at age 90.3,4
  • Newspaper obituary:
Mervin W. Adams, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 1, at Carolyn’s Hospice Residence. He was the seventh child of William and Sara (Deibler) Adams. His five sisters and brother preceded him in death.
Merv was the beloved husband of the late Edith (Landis) Adams. Edie and Merv were true partners throughout their 55 years together. Whether tooling around the countryside on a motorcycle well into their seventies or laboriously preparing for a coin auction, this couple synched. They also shared a devotion to community service, both spending many of their retirement years serving with the Millersburg Ambulance.
Merv was the proud father of his son Steven and his wife Aggie of Halifax, his daughter Lorraine Gibson of Harrisburg, and his daughter Barbara Otto and her husband Larry of Oakmont, PA. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Justin Adams (Lacy), Kate Mayer (Josh), Isaac Adams (Laura), Glen Gibson (Amber), Matt Otto (Melissa), and Ben Otto (Annie). His family also includes nine great grandchildren.
This iconic Millersburg resident wore many hats, both literally and figuratively. His longest running profession was that of auctioneer. Merv holds the second license ever issued to an auctioneer in the state of Pennsylvania in 1951, and his career lasted until 2016. He was also president of the Pennsylvania Auctioneers Association in 1990 and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2000.
Community and church ran deep in Merv’s veins. He was an Upper Paxton Township Supervisor for 24 years, serving as the road master for 22 of those years, and was President of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors. He was President of the Millersburg Ambulance Association for 18 years as well as a first responder. He also served as a past president of the Dalmatia Kiwanis Club where he was a long term member. However, Merv’s longest-running stint may be as a member of David’s Church, where he is noted as its longest attending member, having attended in his mother’s womb, even before his birth on January 9, 1928.
The legacy of Merv Adams is engraved in our area. Remember him when you see the Conservation District’s Building as you climb Peter’s Mountain, in the roads etched across Upper Paxton Township, in the beautiful Millersburg Ambulance Building—all of which he worked hard to bring about.
    Hats off, Merv!
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to David’s Bible Church, 1072 State Route 25, Millersburg, PA 17061; The Millersburg Ambulance Association, PO Box 72, Millersburg, PA 17061; or Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am on Saturday May 12 at David's Community Bible Church in Killinger. Memorial services will begin at 11 am. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements by Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home in Millersburg.
