    TROY - Ann Marie McCarthy Whyland, 79, former Brunswick Hills resident, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at Van Rensselaer Manor after a long illness.
    Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Michael J. McCarthy M.D. and Mabel Romberger McCarthy.
    A resident of Troy for the past 50 years, she was raised in Pottsville, PA, and was a graduate of Pottsville High School. She received her bachelor's degree in history at the University of Texas at Austin and a master's of education from Russell Sage College, Troy.
    Ann was a teacher in the Brittonkill Central School District (Tamarac Schools) for 25 years, retiring in 1991.
    She was a former member of the Country Club of Troy. In her younger years, Ann loved traveling the world with her family. She was an avid reader and supporter of the theatre arts.
    Survivors include her children: William C. Whyland (Kathryn) of Manlius, Patricia A. Quillinan (Joseph) of Glenmont, and Christopher M. Whyland of Troy; six grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth and Meaghan Whyland, Brendan, Colin and Halley Quillinan; a sister Mary Dolan of Ft Wayne, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
    Friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh. There are no calling hours. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
    Memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association, Northeastern NY Chapter, 85 Watervliet Ave., Albany, NY 12206, would be appreciated.1
