    William E. Wetzel, of Burlington Township, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at his residence. He was 75.
    Mr. Wetzel was born in Ashland, Pa. and was a United States Navy Veteran.
    For over 30 years he worked for U.S. Steel in the Fairless Plant and retired as a plant foreman. After his retirement from U.S. Steel, he was a custodian for Saint Paul's School in Burlington.
    Mr. Wetzel is survived by his wife, Joan; a daughter Janet Dunkerley and her husband, Todd, of Lexington, S.C; a son, Jeffrey Grobels and his wife, Vicki of Yorba Linda, Ca; two grandchildren: Ashleigh Dunkerley and Alrik Grobels, and a sister, Janet Michaels of Tenn.
    A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday at the Chapel at the Masonic Home, Oxmead Road, Burlington Twp.
    Interment will be private.
    Friends may call Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Masonic Chapel.

    Arthur Leroy Pensyl, 3511/2 South Seventh Street, Shamokin, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at 2:05. Mr. Pensyl was from stricken after he shoveled snow in front of his residence.
    Born in Shamokin, Mr. Pensyl was a son of the late Walter and Florence (Miller) Pensyl. A lifelong resident of Shamokin, he was formerly self employed as a coal trucker.
    Mr. Pensyl was married in August, 1939, in Danville, to the former Florence Fertig. He attended Shamokin schools .
    Survivors include the widow, a son, Gary, at home; a stepson, Bertram Klinger, Shamokin, and a stepdaughter Mrs. David (Lena) Kerr [Herr], Harrisburg.

    SHAMOKIN — Gary Lee Pensyl, 56, of 329 S. Fifth St., passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at his home.
    He was born Oct. 2, 1954, in Shamokin, a son of the late Arthur and Florence (Fertig) Pensyl.
    Gary was a 1972 graduate of Shamokin Area High School. He was married in Primitive Methodist Church, Shamokin, to the former Dolores W. Spade, who survives.
    Gary played in a band and worked in a greenhouse. He also worked as a material handler at Paper Magic, Elysburg.
    He was a member of the Loyal Order Of Moose, the West End Fire Company and the Lithuanian Club, all of Shamokin.
    In addition to his loving wife Dolores, he is survived by one sister, Lena Herr, of Hummelstown; one brother, Bert Klinger, of Elysburg; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
    At Gary's direction, he was cremated and there will not be a funeral service at this time.
    Arrangements were entrusted to James Kelley Funeral Home, Coal Township.

    Lena C. Klinger Herr, 89, of Hummelstown, passed away Friday, June 21, 2019, in the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.
    Born in Ashland and raised in Shamokin on May 18, 1930, the daughter of the late Leon Ray and Florence Pensyl Klinger.
    Lena worked for Dominic Yascavage at the former VFW Post 1687, Hummelstown for 32 years; had worked at the Sears Snack Bar in Colonial Park; and was a seamstress at the Arrow Shirt Factory in Shamokin. She was member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown. Lena was a 1948 graduate of Shamokin High School. She was a social member of the American Legion Post 265 and the former VFW Post 1687, both of Hummelstown. Lena loved to cook, shop and have a good time.
    She is survived by her husband of 56 years, David R. Herr, their two daughters, Jeri and Judi; three other children, Linda, Lee and Lamar; and numerous grandchildren.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Erika J. Frazier, and a great granddaughter, Rosario G. Snyder.
    Lena will be sadly missed by her husband and children. In keeping with her adamant request, there will be no services for Lena.
    In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Inc., East Shore Shelter, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
    The family would like to extend grateful appreciation to neighbors, Judy and Bryan Straub, for their genuine kindness and care given to Lena and David.

    David E. Herr, 84, of Hummelstown, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2021, at his home. David was a kidney transplant recipient of over 24 years. His donor gave him a second life and allowed him to enjoy watching his grandchildren grow up. Born in Penbrook on February 6, 1937, he was the son of the late John and Helen Hawkins Herr. David was a 1956 graduate of Central Dauphin High School. He retired from Sears after 40 years of running the warehouse and deliveries division. Simultaneously, he worked for the Hershey Stage Employee's Union for 20 years. Upon retirement, he was an antiques and collectibles dealer, and collected oil cans and auto parts signs. He enjoyed going to auctions, gardening, fishing and swimming. He was a charismatic, loving person who never met a stranger. His grin and twinkle in his eye let you know you were welcomed as a friend and you would soon be smiling, too. In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his wife, Lena Klinger Herr, on June 21, 2019. He is survived by their two daughters, Jeri and Judi; two grandsons, James and Clay; three stepchildren, Linda, Lee and Lamar; step grandchildren; step great-grandchildren and step great great grandchildren. David will be sadly missed by his family. In keeping with his request, there will be a private burial.     ELYSBURG —Bertram L. “Bert” or “Buddy” Klinger, 82, of Elysburg, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
    Bert was born in Klingerstown on July 10, 1931, the son of the late Florence (Fertig) Klinger Pensyl and Leon Ray Klinger.
    He graduated in 1949 from Shamokin High School.
    He worked as a baker in Shamokin for 25 years and for Washington National Insurance Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1992, at which time he moved to Elysburg.
    In 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Jeanne Wary, in St. John’s United Church of Christ, Shamokin.
    They became the parents of four children, Cynthia and her husband, Frank Mirillo; twins, Kathy and her husband, Robert Kufta, and Karen Mackey, and Laurie and her husband, Jonathan Clark; he was the proud “Pap” of four grandchildren, Dana Sarnoski, Jeanne Ann Krolick, Richard Mirillo and Emma Clark; and also is survived by one great-granddaughter, Olivia Sarnoski; a sister and brother-in-law, Lena and her husband, David Herr, of Hummelstown; and several nieces and nephews.
    He and Jeanne recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; one half-brother, Gary Lee Pensyl; his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. G. Stanley Wary; and one son-in-law, Robert Mackey.
    A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
    Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Farrow Funeral Home, 240 W. Chestnut St., Shamokin.

  • Leon Ray Klinger died on 16 January 1932, Upper Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County, PA, at age 22. Apparently following an argument with his wife at the farm of his maternal grandparent Nathan Erdman, near Leck Kill, Northumberland County, PA, Leon shot himself in the head with a shotgun. Newspaper accounts report that he was the father of 2 young children. His body was discovered by his brother Henry the next day. Leon's parents lived on a neighboring farm.1,4
