    Dr. Rudolph "Rudy" P. Miller, Jr., of Plano, Texas, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017 at the age of 90.
    A native of Philadelphia, PA, he earned his bachelor's degree from Millersville University, master's degree at Temple University, and doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.
    A proud Marine and World War II veteran, Dr. Miller was a lifetime educator, starting his career as a public school teacher and administrator before serving as a professor at Ohio University, University of Memphis, and East Tennessee State University.
    Upon retirement, he was designated Professor-emeritus at East Tennessee State. A former student established the Rudy Miller & Floyd Edwards Scholarship Endowment at ETSU "in honor of two professors that were transformational in my life." This scholarship benefits future students of the Graduate Level Media Services and Educational Leadership Policy and Analysis departments of the Claudius G. Clemmer College of Education.
    He earned numerous other honors for service to his country, community and education. He was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts and was particularly proud of the "Purple Heart" he earned for his service in World War II in Okinawa, Japan.
    A member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, he was active at the Plano YMCA, serving as a Board member for many years.
    He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Iris Troutman Miller; daughter and son-in-law Pam and Ross Holman of Allen, Texas; son Scott and daughter-in-law Annie Miller of Virginia Beach, Virginia; granddaughters Katie Miller Sanders (husband Gary) of Winchester, Virginia, and Ashlee Miller Upp (husband Justin) of Dover, Delaware, and grandson Chris Holman (wife Wendi) of McKinney, Texas, and three great-grand children (Dylan Holman, Addison Sanders, and Abigail Upp). He is also survived by a brother, Kenneth J. Miller of Boothwyn, PA.
    He was preceded in death by his parents Rudolph P. Miller, Sr., and Alice Rose Scott Smithson Miller.
    A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.

    FREEBURG -- Mrs. Pauline M. Hoke, 79, of New Market and Willow streets, died at 4 a.m. today in Sunbury Community Hospital, where she had been a patient since Tuesday. She had been in ill health for the past several years.
    Born in Selinsgrove Dec. 9, 1907, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Cora (Beaver) Musselman. In 1924, she married Clarence F. Hoke.
    They lived in Freeburg all their married life. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
    In addition to her husband, she is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Mary Gearhart, Mrs. Dorothy Hinkle and Mrs. Marlene Troutman, all of Freeburg, Mrs. Betty Kessler of Ohio, Mrs. Ada Treaster of Mount Pleasant Mills RD2, Mrs. Judy Connolly of Lewisburg and Mrs. Pat Whitmyer of Montandon; eight sons, Francis E., Richard L., William E., Charles E., Robert H., Donald C. and Gary, all of Freeburg, and David M. of Shamokin Dam; 41 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Paul Musselman of State College.

    Robert E. Trautman Sr., 78, of Freeburg, passed away suddenly on Monday morning, Dec. 12, 2016, at the Richfield Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center where he was admitted on Dec. 8, 2016.
    He was born Feb. 7, 1938, in Middleburg, and was raised by his grandparents, the late William F. and Thelma L. Trautman. He was the son of the late Max E. Trautman and Gladys Pontius. He was married to the former Marlene N. Hoke and his passing breaks a marital union of 58 years.
    Robert was a graduate of Selinsgrove High School and was an Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.
    He retired from Shipper Car Line, Milton and was previously employed at Hauser Homes, Wood Mode Inc., and Jack Winnicks Store.
    He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, Rooster Corner's Sportsman Club and Kreamer Sportsman's club. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1173, Selinsgrove and the Freeburg Fire Company.
    Robert enjoyed hunting and watching TV. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildrens sporting events.
    In addition to his wife Marlene, Robert is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Jr. and Beth Ann Trautman and Jerre and Angela Trautman, all of Freeburg; seven grandchildren, Danielle Trautman, Robert Trautman III and his fiance, Michele Donegan, Bryant Trautman and his wife Mercedes, Boe Trautman, Drew Trautman, Lacey Trautman, and Ethan Trautman; three great-grandchildren, Xavier, Zander, and Ryker.
    Robert was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Cooper M. Trautman.
    There will be no viewing. Services will be at the discretion of the family.
    Memorial gifts may be made in loving memory of Robert to the Freeburg Fire Company, P.O. Box 29, Freeburg, PA 17827.
    The George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills is assisting the family with the arrangements.2

    She was born Oct. 23, 1941, in Freeburg, a daughter of the late Clarence Hoke and Pauline Musselman. On Oct. 6, 1958, Marlene married the love of her life, Robert E. Trautman Sr. They shared more than 58 years of marriage until Robert's passing on Dec. 12, 2016.
    Marlene was a 1959 graduate of Selinsgrove High School. She worked at the Dutch Pantry, and on the assembly line at Phillips Industries in Selinsgrove. Marlene was a member of the Freeburg Lutheran Church and the Freeburg Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Her greatest enjoyment was spending special and precious time with her family. She loved to attend her grandchildren's sporting events. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching game shows, playing cards, and doing puzzles.
    She is survived by her two sons, Robert E. Trautman Jr. and his wife Beth and Jerre Trautman and his wife Angela, all of Freeburg; seven grandchildren, Danielle Trautman of Freeburg, Robert Trautman III and his wife Michele of Freeburg, Bryant Trautman and his wife Mercedes of Oriental, Boe Trautman of Freeburg and his companion Samantha Gemberling, Drew Trautman of Freeburg, Lacey Trautman and her companion Logan Taylor of Selinsgrove, and Ethan Trautman of Freeburg and his fiancé Emily Klingler; five great-grandchildren, Xavier Trautman, Zander Trautman, Ryker Trautman, Adilynn Trautman, and Rowan Trautman; three sisters, Mary Gearhart, Dottie Hinkel, and Patsy Whitmyer; and four brothers, William, Charles, Donald, and David Hoke.
    Marlene is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Robert E. Trautman Sr; three sisters, Betty Kessler, Ada Treaster, and Judy Connelly; four brothers, Francis Hoke, Richard Hoke, Robert Hoke, and Gary Hoke; and one great-grandson, Cooper Trautman.
    Services are private at the discretion of the family.

    Miss Alice Winifred Troutman, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Troutman, Dalmatia, died late last evening at the home of her parents following a two weeks' illness of typhoid fever, the source of which is undetermined by state health investigators.
    Miss Troutman was graduated last spring from the Dalmatia High School and was a teacher in the Lutheran Sunday School at Dalmatia. She is survived by her parents and a sister. The funeral is to ne held from the home Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 with burial in Dalmatia cemetery.

    MILLERSBURG — M. Georgene Shiffer, 90, of 116 Lincoln Lane, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at Harrisburg Hospital.
    She was born in Dalmatia, a daughter of the late Emmon and Alice (Blasser) Troutman. She was married to William E. Shiffer, who preceded her in death.
    Georgene was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Millersburg.
    She is survived by two daughters, Martha M. Shiffer, of Rockledge, Fla., and Nancy W. Shiffer, of Millersburg; and several cousins.
    She was preceded in death by one sister, Winifred Troutman.
    The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoover- Boyer Funeral Home, Millersburg, followed by the funeral at 2.
    Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax.
