    She was a member of Christ Evangelical Congregational Church, Lavelle, and Ashland Senior Citizens.
    She worked for many years at the Mount Carmel Blouse Co. until retirement.
    Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Fertich, in 1983; and son, Larry in 2007.
    Surviving are two sons, Dale Fertich, Aspers, and Paul Fertich, Harrisburg; daughter, Pauline Shirk, Ashland; three sisters, Verna Wilde, Lansdale, Anna Mau-rer, Allentown, and Rita Masser, Orwigsburg; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Christ Evangelical Church, Lavelle, with the Rev. Michael Eck officiating. Interment will be in Citizens Cemetery, Lavelle.     He was born in Lavelle, May 9, 1917, a son of the late Charles and Christina Eister Fertich.
    Mr. Fertich was a 1935 graduate of Ashland High School and was last employed as a conductor for Conrail, retiring in 1980. He was of the Evangelical faith. He was a member of the Lavelle Fire Company, and the Ashland Area Senior Citizens.
    Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Herring; three sons, Dale, Bi-glerville area, Paul, Harrisburg, and Larry, Lake Wynonah; a daughter, Pauline Shirk, Northumberland; a sister, Ella Mae Fertich, Lavelle; nine grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

    Rita was born in Pitman, Nov. 1, 1929, a daughter of the late Clarence and Elizabeth Deitrich Herring.
    She was the widow of Mark Millard Masser Jr., who passed away in 1992.
    She graduated from Hegins Township High School in 1947 and was employed as a seamstress for various local garment factories.
    She enjoyed being with family, cooking, gardening and going to the casino.
    She was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Masser; siblings, Paul Herring, Irene Heyer and Dorothy Fertich.
    Rita is survived by three daughters, Sharon Keiser, Allentown, Bev Masser, Palo Alto, and Judy Creitz, Deer Lake; four sons, Jim Masser, Mount Juliet, Tenn., Ron Masser, husband of Karen, Pitman, Greg Masser, Schyulkill Haven, and Kevin Masser, Cumbola; daugher-in-law, Carol Masser, Hegins; male companion, Franklin "Bushty" Hepler, Pitman; 12 grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Verna Wilde and Anna Maurer.
    A viewing will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Zion Evangelical Congregational Church, Pitman, followed by a funeral service at noon with Pastor Todd Wolfe officiating.     Randall E. Maurer, 62, of Allentown died Friday, July 8, 2016 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Annette (Sturgeon) Poczak. They shared in each other's life since 1991. Born in Ashland, he was the son of Anna (Herring) Maurer of Allentown and the late Leonard "Skeets" Maurer.
    Executive Chef Randall began his culinary career as a teen at the Locust Valley Country Club and by the time he graduated from Southern Lehigh High School in 1972 he was assistant Chef at the Century House Restaurant, Hatfield. From 1981 to 1985 he owned and operated the 19th Street Deli and in 1986 wanting to refine his classical cuisine skills, he purchased Henry's Salt of the Sea, Allentown which he operated successfully for more than 20 years before selling it in 2007. In August of 2011 he as Executive Chef and a partner opened Randall's on the Orchard Restaurant and Bar, Ore-field where he prepared dishes that were sure to exceed any patron's expectations. When he had the chance, he enjoyed a round of golf with friends. A former owner of several race horses, Randall also enjoyed horse racing. He was a former member of Mahoning Valley Country Club.

    Dennis W. Maurer, 67, of Quakertown, passed away Sat., Sept. 3rd at home surrounded by many of his loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ellen (Schaffer) Maurer for the past 45 years.
    Born in Shamokin, he was a son of Anna (Herring) Maurer and the late Leonard Maurer.
    Dennis honorably and faithfully served his country with the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He cheated death in May 1970, and while he lost his legs, his optimism and love of life remained intact. He loved being outside, whether he was operating heavy equipment for the excavating company he started in 1978 or indulging in his passion for gardening. He was also a member of the First Marine Division Association and the Marine Corps League.
    Survivors: With his wife and his mother, he is survived by son Michael Maurer and wife Diana of Quakertown; daughter Terri Pasternak and husband Steve of Telford; grandchildren Corey, Kaden, Brandi, and Holli; brothers Richard Maurer and Jeffrey Maurer and wife Christie; and sister-in-law Annette. He is preceded in death by his father, his brother Randall Maurer, and his beloved dog, Dusty.
    Services: Services will be held 10:30 AM on Sat., Sept. 10th at Jeffrey A. Naugle Funeral & Cremation Service, 135 W. Pumping Station Rd., Quakertown. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Fri., Sept. 9th from 6:00-8:00 PM and on Sat, Sept. 10th from 9:00-10:30 AM.

    Bruce Gary Masser, 66, of Hegins, passed away unexpectedly Thursday at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street.
    Born in Hegins, Dec. 24, 1947, he was a son of Rita Herring Masser, Deer Lake, and the late Mark Masser.
    He graduated from Tri-Valley High School and had served in the Army National Guard.
    He worked as a truck driver at Tri State Envelope Corp. for 40 years.
    Bruce was a member of the American Legion, Valley View. He was an avid Tri-Valley sports fan and enjoyed going to the casino, fishing and boating.
    He was the husband of Carol Maurer Masser. They married June 8, 1968.
    In addition to his wife and mother, Bruce is also survived by a son, Mike, husband of Pam Masser, Mertztown; two daughters, Amy, wife of Brett Stehr, Pitman, and Elizabeth, wife of John Brodie, Pottsville; two grand children, Courtney and Emma; and seven siblings, Jim, Sharon, Ron, Bev, Judy, Greg and Kevin.
    A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Evangelical Congregational Church, Pitman, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Todd Wolfe officiating. Private interment will be held in St. John's (Kimmel's) Church Cemetery Ashland.
