    Vera Louise (Fertig) Benner, 80, of Timonium, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2012.
    She was born Aug. 20, 1931, a daughter of the late Helen and Frank Fertig, of Shamokin, Pa.
    She graduated as valedictorian from Northumberland High School with the class of 1949, as did her husband of 53 years, Jack L. Benner, who died in 2005.
    Vera was employed by the Northumberland Water Co., the Atlantic Refining Co., and the Air Force. She was instrumental in the implementation and editing of newsletters for the Air Force at the Pentagon, Greystone Park Hospital, Parsippany, N.J., the Bath Welcome Wagon and Bethel Lutheran Church, Bath, Ohio, and the Altoona Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, Altoona, Pa.
    A woman of great warmth and grace, Vera dedicated her life to raising her family, providing constant support and unconditional love. Her husband's career resulted in their living in five states where she was always active in her church and community, logging countless volunteer hours. Very creative, she especially enjoyed music and was a talented piano player.
    She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Gary Chandler, of Phoenix, Md., Linda and James Smith, of Richfield, Ohio, and Myra and David Wieman, of Ellicott City, Md; a constant source of joy and inspiration, were her grandchildren, Carolyn and Danielle Chandler, Clinton, Justin and Jack Smith, and Ally and Benner Wieman; four sisters, June Seebold, Nancy Bennett, Shirley Callender and Carolyn Miller.
    She was preceded in death by one brother, Franklin Fertig in 2007.
    As a continuing act of her selflessness, Vera requested that her body be donated to Anatomy Gifts Registry.
    A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3604 Chatham Road, Ellicott City, Md.
    Because of Vera's compassion and love for children, especially those suffering, her daughters suggest donations in her memory to Make-a-Wish Foundation, 9475 Deereco Road, Suite 306, Timonium, MD 21093.

    Ocala - Herman L. Bennett, 98, a 27 year resident of Ocala, passed away peacefully at home on June 30th, 2012 under hospice care. Born in Altoona, PA, Herm graduated from Glen-Nor High School in 1931. A former resident of Ridley Park, PA he retired as a Vice President from Girard Bank, Philadelphia, PA in 1975. He was a longtime member of Joy Lutheran Church and an active participant in the church's financial activities. Herm was a charter member of the Ocala Top of the World Lions Club and a past recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow award. Herm was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy V (Mearns) Bennett in 1973. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, C. Nancy (Fertig) Bennett; his children, Richard (Joanne), Gary, and Lynn Friedrichs (Karl); his stepdaughter, Sharon Hazeltine, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 1 p.m., at Joy Lutheran Church, 7045 S.W. 83rd Place, Ocala, FL 34476. Burial will be private at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Joy Lutheran Church.
