Always busy, she had various jobs and was employed by the former Kresge's Department Store for 25 years. An excellent cook, she ran a coffee shop in Williamsport and later another out on "The Sock." They lived out on the Loyalsock Creek until her husband died, and then she moved into Montoursville.1

    After high school, Stroudsburg Normal School, and a first teaching job elsewhere, she accepted a teaching position in Southampton where she met the principal, Forrest Eugene Klinger. Although they both were "pinned" to someone else, Gene and Ethel became engaged and married in 1930.
    Ethel was an active member of the Junior Women's Club in Southampton and was instrumental in starting the Southampton Free Library. Later, she served with the Home and School Association and was a substitute teacher.1
