  • By 1910, J. Wilson and his wife Rebecca had been married 29 years and had given birth to 9 children, 7 of whom were then living. He was a retail hardware merchant.     Joseph W. Barto, 85, of Schoentown, passed away Sunday at home. He resided in West Berlin, N.J., for 31 years, before moving to Schoentown.
    Born in Philadelphia, March 11, 1931, he was a son of the late Henry and Ruth Thompson Barto.
    Joe served in the Army during the Korean War as a 82nd Airborne Ranger.
    He worked in the television industry for 35 years until retiring and then worked part time for GBC computer company in New Jersey.
    Joe was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Saint Clair, and the Saint Clair American Legion Post 719.
    He loved to fish, go boating, traveling and will miss visiting old friends in Florida, especially the Murphys and the Degelmans.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Barto Jr.
    Joe is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Leona Popnik Rudy Barto, Schoentown; a sister, Ruth Buehler, Bensalem; nieces and nephews.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Saint Clair, with Monsignor William Glosser officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment with military honors will take place in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Port Carbon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Clare of Assisi Church Memorial Fund, 250 E. Hancock St., Saint Clair, PA 17970. Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, 208 Pike St., Port Carbon, is in charge of arrangements.
