    William H. Smeltz, son of Daniel and Amanda Smeltz, born in Hubley township, Schuylkill County, May 31 1854, confirmed a member of Gratz Reformed Church by the Rev. W. G. Engle May 2nd 1874[,] Was united in marriage to Ellen Dietz, March 4 1875; six children were born to them.
    Mr. Smeltz died in the Pottsville hospital on May 16 1924, his wife preceding him in death six years ago; two children also preceded the father. The survivors are: Mrs. Jennie Saussaman, Erie. Pa: Mrs. Bertha Strohecker, Gratz; Mrs. Rufus Wiest, Gratz and John Smeltz of Hegins; also twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild.
    The funeral was very large on Tuesday, Rev. Russel Custer and Rev. C. P. Wehr officiating, the latter preaching the sermon. Funeral Director, Bowman. Interment at Klinger's Church. Of this congregation Mr. Smeltz was a faithful member.

    Grace M. Wiest, 90, formerly of Deep Creek Road, Barry Township, passed away Saturday morning at Schuylkill Manor Nursing Center, Pottsville.
    Born in Hegins, Feb. 9, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Clara Wolfgang Mervine. She attended Barry Township School.
    She was a member of Christ's United Lutheran Church, Ashland, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Order of the Eastern Star 154, Ashland, and Galilian Shrine 34, Pottsville.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Blair A., in December 1993; brothers, Earl, Clement, Melvin, Whalen and Harry "Gomer" Wiest, who was a twin brother to the late Clara L. Schweinhart, other sisters, Rena Kissinger, Gladys Moyer and June Mervine.
    Surviving are a daughter, Anna L. Neumeister, Ashland; a granddaughter, Carla Mae, wife of Robert Carl, Ashland; a great-granddaughter, Rhonda Carl, Ashland; a sister-in-law, Alma Mervine, Valley View; nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Christ's United Lutheran Church, Airport Road, Ashland, with the Rev. Robert Hoenich, her pastor, officiating. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Barry Township. Memorials may be made to Christ's United Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 437 Airport Road, Ashland, PA 17921. Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, is in charge of arrangements.
